Extreme Lag When Loading any program

Hello,

I’m new to Linux, coming over to Manjaro from Arch. I’m having issues with performance on modern hardware.

Background - My Arch install was corrupted. I switched over to Manjaro on an older system (AMD R9 3800X | GTX 1080). I upgraded my system a week later to my current hardware (AMD R9 7950X3D | RTX 4090).

Issue - When I load any program, my PC lags and becomes unusable until the program loads. It can be into a game, loading Firefox, Discord, anything. The mouse is jumpy or doesn’t move. Once the program loads, performance is fine. It is causing issues with stability. For example, if I try to load Beat Saber, the game will show the splash screen and lock the entire system.

System Info - R9 7950X3D, RTX 4090, 64 GB RAM, 6.3.5-2 Kernel, Driver 530.41.03

Thank you for your help in advance. If there is any more information you need, let me know.

Hello and welcome.
First this should help you report general system information:

And also please provide the output of

Warning: no configs for USB devices found!

Apologies for the late reply. I was out of town for a few days. If you need any other information, please let me know.

This thread is marked as solved. Do you still have the problem?

Yes. I’m still having the problem. I tried the steps above, and it didn’t help.

Thats ok - its a forum.

I dont really see any issues in your output. No swap … but 62 GB of memory.

… is it possible some foreign package(s) snuck in?

pacman -Qm

Should return all foreign packages … namely we want to see if any core software has been replaced.

Unrelated posts have been moved to new topics. Please do not hijack other’s posts.

That returned the following.

systemd-fsck-silent 239-1

Do you notice any errors when attempting to launch from terminal?

Outside of the lag, there are no errors.

inxi reports a USB flash drive connected. Does the lag occur when this drive is disconnected?

Have you run a RAM test at boot?

Did you check the “Known issues and solutions” from the latest update?

I unplugged the USB drive. No changes. It was plugged in for BIOS updates, since the 7950X3D was known to catch fire due to overvoltage issues. There were daily BIOS updates to try and remedy this, so I left the USB drive plugged in to not lose it.

I ran memtest86. It came back Pass. I only did one run as it ran for 40 minutes.
