Ethernet connection works only after reboot

Hi,

yesterday I installed Manjaro xfce and I noticed that ethernet connection works only if I reboot the pc. I’d like to solve this problem and make the ethernet adapter works also on first turn on ('cause having to reboot every time is very annoying). Hope you can help me. Bye!

Hi @jamalito ,
Welcome to the forum, I wonder whether you are able to provide any additional information about your system. Please, read the following post:
[HowTo] Provide System Information

Maybe, you can post the output of the following terminal command:

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width

Regards,

Hi @j8a ,
here the outputs.

Hope you can help me, thanks!!!

The driver doesn’t seem to be loaded in the first case (when it doesn’t work), driver is e1000e as I can see.
You can confirm this with

lsmod | grep e1000e # it should be listed out

It’s not a solution but you can try manually forcing / loading the module via modprobe (-r variant is to unload it but probably not needed)

sudo modprobe -r e1000e
sudo modprobe e1000e

…and if it fails to load for some reason, then run in parallel in terminal the journalctl -r (or similar) at the same time as calling the modprobe

It could be that the problem is related to WoL, and the solution could be to turn of all the WoL features in the Windows Intel driver if you have a dual boot installation.

Another option could be to restart the network-manager after cold boot:

sudo service network-manager restart

Have also a look into this thread:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=191981

Hi @dragan,
I tried

sudo modprobe -r e1000e
sudo modprobe e1000e

but this not worked. The output it gaves me:

@Wollie in the thread you linked the problem is solved disabling “wake on lan” from Windows, but I’haven’t Windows anymore. Bye!

You didn’t provide the lsmod grep - there could be more modules related.
Wollie gave you a good link there, you can try and reset the pci device, or remove rescan (is hard variant of it). Find your ethernet device path (lspci etc., see the archlinux link), and send echo 1 >${PCIPATH}/remove then echo 1 >/sys/bus/pci/rescan - that hard resets the pci device. Worth a try maybe.
