I have a dual monitor setup with a nvidia 1070. When at the login screen, my left and right monitors are switched. I cannot switch the positions of the monitors/ports because the way I have them now is the only way it works with geforce experience on windows. After I log in, the monitors go to their correct positions. Is there some config file for the login screen I can change?
Create a fixed layout in /etc/X11/mhwd.d/nvidia.conf
You can do it with Nvidia Settings, but make sure you only replace the proper things …
Sorry, I am a bit of a noob. What lines would I have to edit in nvidia.conf to achieve the correct monitor setup?
Once you set it the way you want it in Nvidia X Settings, go to Preview button and copy all that text and share it here.
Use ``` above and bellow that text for proper formatting. Also share your original nvidia.conf and will help you out with it.
This is what is generated by my Nvidia X Settings:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 460.73.01

Ok, so this should be it, but please make a backup of your current nvidia.conf before replacing with this:

Usually, at least for me, i prefer instead of nvidia-auto-select
as you have here:
Option "metamodes" "DP-5: nvidia-auto-select +1920+0, DP-1: nvidia-auto-select +0+0"
to use the exact resolution, placement and refresh rate for the monitor connected to that port, but it might work as you did it too.
Thank you! It worked perfectly. I’ll explore your suggested monitor options at some point as well.
