Guys i am trying to install my grafic card but without sucess. someone can help me?
I download from the nvidia site and use the command sudo LANG=C ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.157.run and get this message:

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

Sorry this is my first post. my fault.

Welcome to the forum!

There’s your first problem. Uninstall it and install the drivers the right way. See Configure NVIDIA (non-free) settings and load them on Startup - Manjaro

Please post your full system info as outlined here:

Please also see:

Once you are back to a reasonable state, as yochanon suggests above … this driver profile seems to have been installed and what you want.

On top of that … it has me interepereting its presence as verifying your card can use the latest drivers … I dont know why you would want 390 instead (nvidia is up to the 500s now).

Its possible that selection was in error … but still there are multiple driver series available and you likely want whatever latest version works for your hardware.

You may wish to install or reinstall your desired profile via mhwd after removing the website software.
(see the link above)

To finish up … let me illustrate how to use PRIME.
The following is a test, with the first command expecting Intel and the second nvidia;

glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
prime-run glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'

i want the 390, because my graffic card is the notebook geforce 820m and i try to search a solution, and everybody told me that the latest driver for this gc is 390 and needs a kernel 515

I see nvidia offering the 430 on its site.
I dont know what other articles or things you refer to.
Whatever the case … mhwd also offers the 390.
Though it would have to use the older/deprecated/crappier bumblebee for gfx switching…

video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-390xx-bumblebee

i will try the

video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-390xx-bumblebee

i make a instalation with sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300 and after its finished, i run the:

prime-run glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 150 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 24 (X_GLXCreateNewContext)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 50
Current serial number in output stream: 51

dont know what to do

In that case you are not using PRIME.
The mentioned command with bumblebee becomes:

primusrun glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'

(note: you can also use optirun … if memory serves though primusrun was newer/preferred)

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bumblebee

I install the pci nonfree 0300 and after it i use the command:

prime-run glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'

my problem is, the instalation is ok, no error, but i cant see the nvidia drivers or configure it, and the notebook doesnt looks like using the graffic card

So now you are using PRIME profile ?
And normally glxinfo returns “Intel”, and using prime-run it returns “Nvidia”, right?

Thats how PRIME is supposed to work … you are using the integrated gpu (weaker intel) by default … and call the dedicated gpu (more powerful nvidia) when you want it.

For example, in the case of steam - edit game launch options to be

prime-run %command%

And now your steam games will run on the nvidia.

If you dont like this and want to use nvidia all the time … then maybe check your BIOS for options to disable the iGPU.

More info is at the wiki.

Not Working,
Now i have this scenario:

mhwd -li  1|1 ✘

try to install the 430 driver and have this message

Just like above … You are still using the bumblebee proile … it does not have prime-run.

And it looks like you were right in the first case to think it should be 390.

but witch one 390 i use? i cant install from nvidia site

Good. You shouldnt.

The one you already have.

According to your mhwd output

mhwd -li

You have

Thats it. Youre done.
Test it if you want. NOT WITH PRIME, but with BUMBLEBEE primusrun or optirun
Ex:

glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
primusrun glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
