Is there any other information that might be useful?

Thanks in advance!

Mod edit:- System information has been transplanted to first post.

Regarding the issue; I don’t know what’s causing this, but there has been at least one similar report that I’m aware of.

Keep monitoring the Update Announcement topics for any news on the topic, but my guess is that it’s a KDE issue.

It might be worth asking a question or two there as well.

Regards.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Does the issue also occur if you switch from a Plasma X11 to a Plasma Wayland session? I noticed that the other user who seems to be experiencing a similar issue has “DE / WM: KDE Plasma / KWin (X11)” in their user profile.

The fact that both of you are using X11 may be just a coincidence, but kwin_x11 was recently split from kwin_wayland. Development work is being focused on kwin_wayland. kwin_x11 is being maintained by a team of volunteers, meaning it will get no new features and will only receive back-ported bug-fixes & security updates.

I don’t think so, or else I would be having the same problem, and I’m not.

But — as per @scotty65’s post above — I am running Plasma on Wayland. And, given that the most recent Stable Update included an update to Frameworks, I shut down sddm and deleted the contents of ~/.cache before updating. :man_shrugging:

KDE Bug 503799: (X11-only) Thumbnails aren’t working in general

Confirmed!
It does not happen in Wayland.
Previews work perfect in Wayland.
So it’s a KDE Plasma x11 issue.
Thank you everybody!! You are all great!!!
It seems I’ll have to use only Wayland from now on.
What do I do with this thread? It can be closed.
Do I check the “Solution” checkbox?

Yes - just tick the checkbox under the post which provided the solution or was most helpful in solving the issue.
