OrangePi released some units to early adopters from China. That was organized in a QQ group by OrangePi. There is also a Discord chat about the OrangePi Neo. Invite to that group would be: Orange Pi
In this thread we want to work with you on the OS, with your feedback to make the user experience better.
Just finished testing update. And found an issue here.
1, In Steam game mode. Plugin AC power can cause CPU low to 500Mhz. Which make handheld quite Laggy.
If you unplug it , Performance will back to normal, CPU can be up to 4G hz.
It’s quite fuuny. This happed while I play Black Myth Wukong.
But won’t effect Quake2 and Quake 1.
Desktop mode is same
2, Game Screen will turn to yellowish if you touch on screen or use touchpad.
Seems like Kwin’s move mouse to raise up window effect.
@plumlis. Thx for the initial test of the OS. On my end I can’t reproduce the AC power issue, as I mostly play with AC adapter in. So we have to see what might trigger the CPU frequence drop. Did you manage to update to the testing channel? As that will update the kernel also to 6.10 series.
Regarding the touchpads. Those are taken by the translation software which joins several devices to one virtual one. You have currently the option to switch between 4 profiles:
Xbox 360
Xbox Elite (default)
Dual Sense
SteamDeck Controller (experimental)
To do that press the RC button in gamemode to get the Overlay mode activated. Then you can select the controller icon to switch the profile. Remember that Steamdeck Controller is experimental and sleep is broken.
The colour change in gamemode when touching the touchscreen or one of the touchpads also depends on which controller profile you are on. Only DualSense and Steamdeck Controller make use of the touchpads. Xbox profiles act as normal touchpads and don’t join them in the virtual devices we emulate. There is an option in settings to lower that colour change a little.
Also tab-to-click on the thouchpads is not working yet. A future OS update may solve that.
After updated to September 1 testing version, the OPi Neo met some problem.
â‘ OGUI cannot be called using the RC key, now the RC key is mapped to the B key.
② In desktop mode, the scale is reset to 100% and needs to be restarted to readjust.
③ The mapping of the controller keys fails in desktop mode: the left and right mouse keys cannot be mapped with RT and LT, the scroll wheel and mouse cannot be mapped with the left and right joystick, and the ABXY and arrow keys are not ineffective.
â‘Ł The LC key cannot call the on-screen keyboard in desktop mode.
⑤ Powercontrol cannot be used to control TDP in game mode, and the default TDP is about 20W.
⑥ In both versions of testing, the “restore factory Settings” option disappears.
⑦ In desktop mode, the shutdown and restart options are disabled, the screen freezes in black, and only the mouse can move.
Some member also met other problems: The system inexplicably stuck, the frame rate dropped, the software to view the frame rate displayed abnormal, and directly disappeared after a while.
Since I am not a native English speaker, the above questions have been translated by machine, and there may be some inaccuracies.
@Brainhole39 I will check your findings on my end. 2) is due to the switch back to X11. Before we had Wayland, which works better. It was used to prevent the issues you face in 7). There was a request in QQ group to use X11 since some streaming app is not yet ported to Wayland yet. However X11 has too many issues with Plasma 6.1 series. So I used Wayland. We will see which version we will use in the end.
Thank you for the reply. The issue with streaming in desktop mode mainly refers to the fact that with Sunshine streaming, it’s easy to create virtual displays in the X11 desktop environment and then map other devices to external screens. However, virtual displays created in the Wayland desktop environment are not recognized properly. So if it’s just streaming the screen on the OPi Neo to other devices, Wayland will do just fine. I look forward to your final choice.
In addition, I am afraid that the current testing version needs more testing before release. I think this may be partly a problem of different hardware versions. Before resolving this issue, is there a way to switch back to the stable channel and restore the previous system version? I wonder if the in-system snapshot function can meet this requirement? Thank you anyhow.
