Since an system update in mid February 2024, this laptop can no longer start up normally after an shutdown. (As it is a spare computer it may had not received any updates since December 17th when it got the February updates)
That is, when user logs in, all desktop icons are gone, desktop theme has changed, windows title bars are gone, hotkey (like alt-f4 to close windows) does not work, open windows are not shown in panel, in order to type anything in any window mouse pointer has to be inside that window… Basically lots of things has changed - and they did not change into new user defaults.
The way to solve this is to run
$ rm .config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfwm4.xml
before shutdown/restart.
Then at least desktop settings comes to manjaro defaults at the next boot. However, at the next shutdown, the same thing happens again. So a workaround is to but the command mentioned above in a logout script.
If the pc gets a hard shutdown - long press power button - it starts up fine without the need to delete the file mentioned. I was hoping this would be fixed with a later update, but so far that has not happened.
How can this be solved?
