Dell monitor audio devices periodically turn off and on

I have a weird phenomenon: the speakers and microphone devices of my external Dell screen periodically (irregular, about every 5-10s) turn off and on again when no sound is playing on them or the built-in laptop adapter. If sound is playing, all is good but if the monitor is selected as output device, I get screen notifications about changing output devices every time which is a little distracting.

Sometimes the audio tab in system settings is showing all devices, sometimes only the microphone, sometimes none and sometimes it shows the whole card as inactive (see below).

The setup:

  • Up-to-date Manjaro KDE stable
  • Framework laptop
  • Dell S2722DZ monitor connected via USB-C

I find tons of those in the journal but not as often as the device flutter:

I tried resetting, rebooting, unplugging - no change. Other threads suggest installing pipewire but that is installed as well.

Is there any other possibility to connect the monitor: HDMI or Display Port ?

I could use a USB-C-HDMI adapter but then I lose the usb hub in the monitor.

Could be a power setting somewhere.

Which laptop do you have ?

I was more thinking your laptop - whatever brand you use.

Or it could be conflicts - or disagreement - if you have two soundservers running.

Regarding sound servers everything should be as it was during installation:

Pipewire and pulse are the two options, correct?

The kernel is not at version 6.6.25. This is the most recent version.

It’s a Framework 13", about two years old. The mainboard is this: Framework | Mainboard (13th Gen Intel® Core™).

Sorry I’m lost. I read exactly that and pasted the result of the inxi command above, between detail tags as requested further above. I’m somewhat tech savvy but I’m afraid I can’t find anymore information I can provide.

Hm I don’t have those, just /sys/kernel/debug/dri/1/gt0/uc/?uc_info, but:

no, everything is fine. a question. is the hdmi-cable the original one that was included to the monitor? keep in mind that there are a lot of different hdmi-versions and a wrong hdmi-cable can cause the trouble.

Good point. It’s actually a usb-c cable. The monitor has two usb-a ports that I can use via this connection. Could that be a problem? I mean yes it probably could. It’s just weird that the sounds works flawlessly until I stop playing it when the back and forth (see screenshots above) starts.
