Deepin Manjaro waiting room

What has to be done by the Deepin team to get Manjaro spin off?

Gitlab: https://github.com/linuxdeepin

At least fixing some of the existing bugs? I believe they are currently working on the black border one for example.

More or less they try to get their own release first. @felixonmars does his best to port all fixes over to Archlinux. Our team had not yet the time to do a spin of Deepin to check what is broken. I can try to spin one so we have a base-line.

Deepin is based on a lot older packages stack as Archlinux or Manjaro are offering. So the bugs they face on our end may not appear on theirs.

I’m sorry but I’m seeing no progress on Deepin defects. For instance new ones keep appearing as result of new designs, being the latest one that I’m unable to select my speakers as audio output. I have no audio.

2 things

  • one is to have STABLE version from dev Deepin ( not the case )
  • and that this is also ok with Archlinux in Stable for sync with manjaro

Just two days ago:

Is that Manjaro deepin current state? I have deepin deepin on a vm and everything works fairly sleek. Apart from AppStore obviously and outdated lutris form mid 2019.

Manjaro Deepin current state.

Manjaro stopped to bother with Deepin and we simply sync the packages from Arch directly. Most work into making it kinda work is done by @felixonmars from Archlinux. More or less the latest packages from Deepin upstream get packaged by him.

Deepin is focusing on their distro for now, as that is what they get paid for. Having to deal with the pressure of the Chinese government to get their OS ready makes almost no room to listen to the wider community using their FOSS product. Correct me if I’m wrong, but all that gives almost no free time for them to fix bugs reported by us.

Yeap. What is unclear for me is if the situation will change, or it’s a dead horse.

I guess we should wait for version 20 to be considered stable for being able to tell.

I can’t login with my account after I did the update today. I was able to login with a newer account that I created before this last update.

After the system boot my login user (my user) swap to the second user that I created (my girlfriend user) alone and every time I try to go back to my user (when possible, because sometimes the user change icon disappear) and I type my password but the screen goes dark or come back to login screen with my girlfriend user in place.

I will swap this distro for the gnome or something more stable. But tomorrow if I get any reply I will try before I start to work.

It’s very stressful to work with this desktop.

I cannot reproduce it here. If you still want to debug this, please provide some relevant journal and /var/log/lightdm/* logs.

It is largely regarded as broken

They are actively working on it, so I suspect we will get a functional version eventually. However, when? That’s a different matter.

Nope, life doesn’t work like that.

If you fail to deliver a working product in a reasonable time frame, the product will be gone.

Clients and investors will lose hope on you, and move their attention and money to something else.

I gave up with this. Installed Manjaro Gnome.

If you’re interested in reading more about what has been going on with Manjaro Deepin, you can read it on the archived forum:

I suppose that means you used a really old deepin image and so you need to manually intervene as per arch packaging compression change
as seen here:
https://www.archlinux.org/news/now-using-zstandard-instead-of-xz-for-package-compression/
which points to this from 2019:
https://www.archlinux.org/news/required-update-to-recent-libarchive/

I believe the update announcements still post the steps to migrate.

But after you do that … deepin will still be broken.
Likely noticeably even more buggy than the live system you booted into.
