CPU usage goes up by 15% launching Setting or any task

CPU usage goes up even when I resize any windows but after the action it goes back to normal., I do not know where to find logs for this.

Also add to this > For an example if I were to launch setting while watching YouTube, the video freezes and the CPU goes 30% and goes back to normal…

Sounds like software rendering on a relatively slow CPU. To confirm, fix, or prove wrong provide the information that @cscs mentioned…

This is completely unrelated, but you should only choose, enable, and use one of the two.

May I ask, having both PipeWire and PulseAudio does it cause any issue? also it was pre installed… I didnt install it

If I choice to disable, which is to disable? also how can I do disable please?
You mean Uninstall it? or disable it?

Just leave them, see:

Alright… thanks for the that info

see with htop process that use CPU%

Maybe not related … but your BIOS could use an update.

No. It is the current state (at least) on kde installations and perfectly normal.
@Mirdarthos probably didn’t know and/or thought of another DE.

I did update, but not helped with the issue… also thanks for addressing BIOS update.

@NGr Did quoted an older post with info… but audio wasnt an issue

Sorry if my ignorance is getting the way here, but I’m unclear as to what the problem is?

If you use your desktop GUI to resize windows, it will consume momentary CPU attention. Okay, you see a 15% usage and then it goes back to normal. What is the nature of the problem?

If you are in the midst of watching YouTube (CPU-intensive) and you start changing system settings, it is entirely reasonable that your YouTube playing experience might suffer for a moment or two before resuming at a normal pace.

(FWIW, I see similar spikes in CPU usage when monitoring typical actions like these via htop in the terminal.)

Again, sorry if I’m being dense, but this strikes me as normal behavior. Is my lack of experience with such matters too obvious? :man_shrugging:

Nature of the problem is Launching an system app shouldnt take 15% CPU spike…

Not about the watching YouTube experience also YouTube is an example, its running on a web browse… the browser itself takes up 15+% CPU usage when watching YouTube,.,

You mean Inc the screen freeze when opening settings??

You may have a point or might not… But 15% off an i7 CPU its little extreme for a small task… Opening a setting
I have a small GIF…

If everyone experience the same issue…I wouldn’t bother.

I’d be curious to know the basis on which you say this. Again, I’m not trying to be contrary… just trying to get my facts straight. Why is it that launching a system app shouldn’t take 15% of CPU resources for a brief moment?

And in practical terms, what does that momentary spike “cost” you, given that 85% of your processing capacity is still not even being used at that point?

This would be a good opportunity for others to chime in with their related observations … perhaps you’ve got an issue to be resolved. OTOH, perhaps not?
