CD drive opens opon wakeup

Not sure where to post this, so move if needed. I recently replaced the power supply in my machine. Since then, whenever I wake up from suspend, the cd drive is poled first and then, after the os has started to come back up, the drive opens. In the BIOS the cd drive is disabled as a boot device and does not do anything when the computer is booted. before the power supply was replaced, this did not happen. Havenā€™t been able to find a solution, hopefully someone here can help. OS is Manjaro Cinnamon on a desktop pc.

After a recent large update my CDROM tray ejects when resuming from suspend. Would appreciate help determining what is causing that.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and post some more information so we can see whatā€™s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin liesā€¦

  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

  3. The output of:

    journalctl --system --boot=0 --priority=3 | tail --lines=50

ASAP after it comes back from resume, would be helpful as well.

on the second command, all I get is ā€œunable to locate daemon control fileā€.

Your inxi output looks fine, so I definitely need the output of this:

Have you tried with sudo yet?

:scream:

same answer with sudo.

Maybe @MrBruce can provide the output to:

journalctl --system --boot=0 --priority=3 | tail --lines=50

Thanks for getting me started. Please see pastbin URL: https://pastebin.com/2LJtnACM

After a recent large update my CDROM tray ejects when resuming from suspend. Would appreciate help determining what is causing that.

Mine is doing the same thing. Tray ejects upon resume.

Having the same problem. Posted problem in ā€œLatest Stable Updateā€ forum area. Had no useful response or solution given. Using XFCE. Thinking of just unplugging the CD-ROM since I hardly ever use it. Would like to find a solution though.

Hello there

Could you try this workaround to the problem? CD/DVD DRIVE Opening Automatically Several Times / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums

That workaround solves the problem. The post mentioned the eject button would no longer work, but it does indeed still work, as well as the eject command line program and K3b.

Workaround worked for me as well, thanks very much for the help.

Fabby, my profile is updated. Didnā€™t realize my old hardware was still there. Thank you as well.

FYI I encountered this problem on another distro and traced it back to a change in the Linux kernel, specifically this one git commit 7dd753ca59d6c8cc09aa1ed24f7657524803c7f3 in the stable kernel tree.

It appears to be a regression, reverting the change makes the problem disappear from my machine.

[edit] this is tracked in the linux kernel bug tracker as bug 213795
