Can't start blueman-applet

Hello,

my blueman-applet stopped working out of nowhere and I can’t seem to run it anymore. It was fine a few hours ago and I was using a bluetooth headset. I was afk for a while and now its not working anymore. The tray icon has disappeared.

I tried to run it again:

~ $ blueman-applet
blueman-applet 12.18.08 WARNING PluginManager:147 __load_plugin: Not loading DhcpClient because its conflict has higher priority
blueman-applet 12.18.08 WARNING PluginManager:147 __load_plugin: Not loading PPPSupport because its conflict has higher priority

I restarted my laptop once but that didn’t help.

I checked if the kernel module was loaded:

I just noticed that the service was inactive:

~ $ sudo systemctl status bluetooth

Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
     Active: inactive (dead)

I tried to restart it but that doesn’t seem to work:

~ $ sudo systemctl restart bluetooth
~ $ sudo systemctl enable bluetooth

Any advise what else I could try? If I there is more information I could share, please let me know!

edit:
more info I can provide:

~ $ sudo pacman -S pulseaudio-bluetooth

and

~ $ sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

made the bluetooth service work again:

~ $ sudo systemctl status bluetooth

But I can’t run blueman-applet. I tried running blueman-manager:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and press the three dots below your post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.
  3. The output of rfkill list would be helpful as well.

:+1:

P.S. If you want to notify me that you did provide this information, please  this message and I’ll come back and have another look.

Thanks for your response Fabby, I’ll use that “how to provide good information” next time I run into trouble

My bluetooth problem solved itself it seems: I restarted my computer in-between my edits yesterday (didn’t help), then later I used timeshift to go back to last Friday’s state (didn’t help), and in the evening I just hibernated my machine as I always do.
Today I wake it up and all of a sudden bluetooth is working again.

I have no explanation… but its working again.

As there is no real solution, I’ve just closed this topic so no one else will find it if they search for solutions.

If you want to reopen, please flag this comment and take reason “Something else” and explain why you want it reopened.
