Cant set system wide proxy settings in xfce

that’s the spirit

I can only use the internet through a proxy because of my country’s ISP. I use a VPN on my phone everproxy to allow me share my phone’s internet to my pc

… you could use that same vpn on your computer, no?
or even on your router - providing access through vpn to all connected devices

But I have learned (read: heard of, but hardly believe) that some countries like the US of A have really “strange” options and regulations for how the paying users can use the services they paid for - all legal, too

its a mobile only vpn

Doesn’t it use same “gateway” IP each time? Anyway there is probably a way to either set the phone like that or to auto update a file or maybe set it in pac file to automatically get gateway.

… there is no such thing …
no, really!

and if they make it difficult - use something else
there are plenty of choices

and why do you need a proxy
to use the tethered connection from your phone?

I don’t get it …

secure connections and a proxy … don’t mix well, btw
not easily

I’m not following? The VPN app that I use for internet is only available on android. I feel like you are misunderstanding. I live in a third world country
The VPN app is currently the only way can get internet access but its only on android so I use an app (EverProxy ) to help share the internet with my PC.

and I’m not following too
perhaps there are assumptions at play here
that simply are not valid

if your phone has internet access
and you tether it to use that connection with your pc or laptop

… this just works

a vpn never comes into play

and if the phone uses a vpn
and gets internet access through that
and you thether it to your pc
your pc will use that connection

simple

no proxy in sight anywhere …

This a page form the website of the app How to use Every Proxy with a VPN – Every Proxy , if you use a VPN on android and tether other devices to that android device they won’t be able to use that internet connection without some sort of “passthrough”. Thats what this app does

I see this - first sentence:

One of the features of using Every Proxy is that you can use your VPN connection from your Android device on other devices.

and, as I said:
ANY connection your android device has
will be used when you tether it (USB or wifi) to your pc

This is just how it works - from my experience as well.

It will just use that existing connection.
Plain and simple.

I have actually no idea what the purpose of that ever proxy app is.
Sounds quite useless to me.

… but I will keep reading to perhaps have my mind changed …

The very simple question is:
can you access the internet when you tether your android device to your pc?
When you use your android phone to provide internet connectivity?
ever proxy not involved

If my phone has internet access
and I tether it to my laptop
(via USB cable or Wifi hotspot feature)
I can use the phones internet connection

simple
it works
always

no extra software involved

what would I need a proxy for?

Many mobile networks now prevent users from tethering their devices to their mobile data network connected device. Some networks charge extra for this functionality.

I think they are just marketing/trying to sell their app

unless you positively know that you cannot simply share and use the internet access your phone has

i cannot access the internet without the VPN app
The VPN app is only on my phone
The phone is unable to share an internet connection with a VPN through hotspot or tether
The Vpn app is what is required to achieve internet access. Just connecting to the hotspot without every proxy doesn’t work
The VPN app tunnels using a special proxy address
Every proxy helps “expose” that special proxy so you can enter that into the proxy settings of your device or browser

what I think
what you might have missed completely
is:

why do you even have this app?

Sharing (by tethering) your phones internet connection should just work.

without that app

I certainly does work for me.
every time

Did you try without it?

Sharing internet connection via tethering is absolutely normal and standard behavior with Android.

IT DOES NOT WORK
Did you watch the video?
Do you get your internet access through a VPN on your phone?

no

not normally
I do use that same vpn on my pc
but when I do, there are no problems
:man_shrugging:

Just tethering it with thw vpn doesnt work
That why apps like Every Proxy exist
EveryProxy wouldn’t exist without that use case.
It is literally how I’m currently using the internet on windows
Are you assuming I wouldn’t have tried that if it wasn’t the case

With a certain VPNs things…change

you are essentially telling me
that when I use mullvad vpn on my phone
(the vpn I use)
I cannot tether my phone to my laptop and use that connection.

but I can

Eaxctly but i have to use a particular VPN to get internet
Again we are not using the same VPN provider or app

… the essence here is:
I cannot assist or help you.
What works for me
and what should work for you
does not.

Shame.
sorry

just use a vpn on your computer then
connect through your phone - but without it using a vpn on it
if that is truly what is preventing things to work

It is the relative same here:

I have a router - which connects me to a wireless network to the internet
I have a vpn on my laptop.
The router (which is your phone in this case)
just passes things through
