Can´t perform system upgrade

This issue has been plaguing me for a while, and I haven’t been able to fix it. Am currently chrooted old enviroment, was hoping to avoid wiping my ssd. I understand VERY WELL that manjaro is an active roll-out distro, and have always treated it as such. Sometimes life gets in the way, and repeating this phrase doesn’t really take you any closer to performing said system upgrade which I very much would like to do in order to qualify for assistance. Asked for help regarding kernel installations (fixed, but alas it brought me no closer to succesfully booting nor upgrading my system).
System is using systemd, is encrypted with LUKS and boot is located in /dev/sda2/boot. I have tried updating gpg keys and mirrors. No matter what is answered the result is about the same. Here are two (minorly) differing outputs. On boot I am greeted with failed to start cups scheduler, & failed to start network time synchronization. BIOS options for secure boot are off, system doesn’t recognize live cd without legacy mode enabled, but in boot options menu if legacy mode is enabled, both OS and Live CD are marked with UEFI marking, and this has been stable for half a century. MODS may close if they deem necessary, I believe we are all learning here, progress is difficult to achieve without open communication and no-one is forced to help. Maybe someone has run into a similar situation. Thank you again! :slight_smile:

Moderator edit: In the future, please use proper formatting: [HowTo] Post command output and file content as formatted text

Hi @glitchyhippie.

I don’t know or even think I can help, because of:

However, I can give you some advice:

When posting terminal output, copy the output and paste it here, wrapped in three (3) backticks, before AND after the pasted text. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Sed
sollicitudin dolor
eget nisl elit id
condimentum
arcu erat varius
cursus sem quis eros.

Instead of like this:

Sed sollicitudin dolor eget nisl elit id condimentum arcu erat varius cursus sem quis eros.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby increasing legibility thus making it easier for those trying to provide assistance.

For more information, please see:

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Hello @glitchyhippie :wink:

lib32-jack and jack were dropped to the AUR and replaced by lib32-jack2 and jack2. If you need these packages, then you have to replace it. You need to type y when asked, since N is the default. Pamac replaces it without asking.

Thank you! I was wondering what the code was for that but am a bit busy, thank you for fixing it for me. And yes, it doesn’t matter whether I press Y or N, the end result is always the same :slight_smile:
The problem is, nothing is replaced, literally no matter what I answer the output is the same any which way.
I will continue training and hope that maybe something comes up :slight_smile:

ok well… then just remove it and install lib32-jack2 before the upgrade. or use pamac:

pamac upgrade --force-refresh --enable-downgrade --no-aur

There is one: grafik

A heart means: I like it or thank you or what ever you think of.

I swear, this is ludicrous. I had to uninstall my desktop too, but I managed to update, and had a working kernel installed. For some reason I assumed that when it asked whether or not to “replace” something, it would remove it and install a newer version, though now that I type it out, it does seem like a mighty tall assumption. Thank you for your iron-clad patience. Much love :slight_smile:
