Hello I have a 1 TB hdd and 250 GB ssd and I want to dual boot with windows 11 I want both manjaro and windows 11 on ssd so what is your prefer partitioning and tell me which type of partition on ssd and which one on HDD ?
and tell me how to change partition without data loss I mean is there a way to repartitioning everything without installing manjaro again?
Iwould divide the 250 GB SSD into 50% for Manjaro and 50% for Windows, but
Windows 11 needs ~512GB.
50% of ssd for Win → install first
50% of ssd for Linux → install second: 300 MB FAT32 for UEFI, 1GB ext4 for /boot, size of RAM for swap partition, rest ext4 /(root).
50% of hdd Win
50% of hdd Linux ext4 for /home
but now my question is how to transfer old manjaro root to ssd and also boot to because I already have manjaro installed and I don`t want to loss data ( no windows installed yet)
I found at first install windows on ssd then move manjaro diles to ssd
so how can I do that.
TNX
Honestly, 125GB should be all you need with Manjaro with a uefi, boot, swap and /, no need for an extra /home.
Boot into the install media. Use gparted to shrink windows. Then copy/paste the partitions in place. Delete the old ones before rebooting. Its going to take forever to shrink windows, might want to start it before bed. You will likely have to reinstall grub Backup important files just in case, better safe than sorry.
ok do I need special app to copy/paste files to new ssd ?
You will be using gparted to copy/paste complete partitions.
I am not that knowledgeable on efi, I have ancient hardware. You might want to look up moving the efi setup before trying.
Welcome to Manjaro!

This said, you can:

ID-2: /boot hast the right size, do not change
ID-3: /boot/efi hast the right size, do not change
ID-4: /home With ext4 it is possible to shrink the partition

ok andreas please help me to transfer my manjaro linux root and boots partitions to new ssd if you can TNX
hello recently I add new ssd to my laptop so now I wanna transfer some partitions to ssd like /boot and /boot/efi and root partition I use efi mode and also I want to install windows on ssd too please help me TNX
What i would do:
- Install minimal manjaro on new ssd from USB
- test the new install (including grub, efi …)
- from live-manjaro do:
- – copy (rsync) content of old / to new /, and
- – copy (rsync) old /home to new /home
After several months using your new install, remove old / and /home
I don’t have time to help you with every step
partitioning: with gparted
copying with: rsync
After reading through all this, it would seem easier and much less of a hassle to just format and reinstall. Especially if up-/downtime isn’t important.
A 512 GiB SSD may be good enough for Win11.
My Manjaro Root-Partition is filled with about 30GiB of a 512GiB NVMe.
So 100GiB for Manjaro is sufficient anyway - rest of consumes Lose11.
Ah I see. That link has basically exactly what I needed. Thanks a ton! I feel silly with how much searching I did for videos and whatnot when the docs made that much sense…
