Brave Browser does not work anymore after Update to Kernel 6.17.11-1 a few days ago

After a big Manjaro update a few days ago my Brave Browser does not work anymore. Brave can be started and closed and the Brave window can be moved around. That´s all. It says Brave was unexpectedly closed. But it´s impossible to type in anything, search or perform a mouse-click. Everything is shown in light grey and the Browser doesn´t react to anything.

I tried to do a new installation which seemed to work but the result is the same. Brave doesn´t work!

The actual Brave version installed is 1.85.116

I have searched the Internet about this issue but I didn´t find any helpful results. Maybe someone in this Forum can point me in the right direction!

It may be corrupted cache. Log out, switch to a TTY, login an execute

That’s at the start, but are there more messages in Terminal when the “Brave was unexpectedly closed” error appears?

No! There are no more messages even if I wait for longer. And the strange thing is: the Browser was not really unexpectedly closed. It´s only a message telling that.

One test you can do is install the new 6.18.0 LTS kernel. I also had some problems with Brave closing without warning, but since I installed this kernel it seems that the problems have disappeared.

Another test, start Brave from Terminal with brave --disable-gpu to disable hardware acceleration and avoid problems with some graphic cards.

I have tried the disable gpu command above. Now the Brave browser is working like normal but I have the following messages at the console. Could I leave it as it is or is some action needed?

Now we know hardware acceleration is the culprit, go to Brave Menu, Settings, System, disable “Use graphic acceleration…” and use Brave as always. Following one Mesa update about two years ago, Chromium based browsers are quite problematic with hardware acceleration.

instead of multiple lines as it appears in terminal

just highlight the output, paste it here, highlight it again and then use the </> button

What terminal are you using?
That looks like the difference between Windows line feed and Linux line feed.
One uses carriage return and line feed (“\r\n”) as a line ending, the other (Unix) uses just line feed (“\n”)

That above looks horrible - not as intended.
