Bluetooth controller issues

so i have been having this problem where my controller keeps disconnecting while i am pairing it, the Bluetooth settings remembers the device from the unsuccessful pairing but when i go to use it the Bluetooth settings keep flashing connected/disconnected over and over again while the controller never connects to the computer.

solutions i have tried are reinstalling Bluetooth drivers for both manjaro and my motherboard and I’ve also done a complete reinstall of manjaro, i also tried buying a new controller and it worked for about two days before it to started having the same problems.

at this point I’m completely at a loss and have no idea what it could be, does anybody have any ideas?

HI @razz ,
I wonder whether you could provide the output of the following terminal question after reading the second post below.

inxi -zv8

[HowTo] Post command output and file content as preformatted text

I will waiting for your answer.
Regards

The key is to trust the device first, otherwise the Device connection will be refused.

Trust>Pair>connect

when typing that command the device does not show up at all in the results.

how am i sub post supposed to trust the device before pairing? the only times i can make it a trusted device is after the failed pairing.

This one confuses me as well. I’ve always paired first and with one exception*, it worked without issue.

* Cheap MIFA ear-buds

Can you show it regardless?

It seems inconsistent that you can even begin to try and pair a device which is not recognized by the system, a device which is effectively non-existent.

&

This working for me with the Bluetooth GUI. When the manager show the device it allows me with a right click the option to pair/trust/connect.

But the way in which order is in my choice.

Since this was leading to problems for me too in the past, to understand this rules. I personally think, the other options should be grayed out till the right order is activated.

Check my links bellow:

How are you doing this?

I pulled out my laptop (with Plasma) to check. For me it doesn’t show any unpaired devices until you click the + symbol (Pair Device), then it searches for devices and allows you to select a device, then it pairs, trusts, and connects to the selected device.

An already paired device only has Connect.

If you go to the Bluetooth section of System Settings, then for each paired device you can find buttons for Connect and Forget, and it has check boxes for Trusted and Blocked. For unpaired devices you still need to use the + Pair Device button/wizard to even see them.

I can’t right click on any paired or unpaired devices at all.

Perhaps I’m missing something as I don’t use Plasma much. :man_shrugging:

Anyway I still haven’t seen mention of which DE the OP is using, and AFAIK that only ever applied to Plasma.

right.
and
… guys:

He didn’t respond.
The device isn’t even recognized.

Feedback from OP is needed
or
just ignore the “issue” - which apparently is not an … issue
as the non existent feedback suggests

When i today connect my bluetooth gamepad, the connection is restored already.

From my memories, i searched for devices in the bluetooth manager when i rightclick on the icon in the Taskmanager.

And when the device is shown, i could right click on the gamepad with the options on the context menue, that showed Trust/Pairing/Connect.

Since i did this 3 year’s ago, it is possible that this informations are outdated now.

my apologies because of my work i only get a limited amount of time to work on the issues on my computer and the ntfs drives became a more pressing matter then the controller.

sorry for being late to respond, i was just busy, yes i use KDE plasma.

From your inxi output I can offer some observations about your system which may be generally helpful.

Kernel 6.11 has reached EOL (early December, last year); it is no longer supported. This kernel could be replaced with kernel 6.12 (the current LTS) with 6.6 (LTS) as a failsafe, for example.

I notice the BIOS is getting rather old.

If the following link reflects your mainboard, your current BIOS appears to be version 7C37vAC released in January, 2021; The latest non-beta BIOS available seems to be 7C37vAO (2024-08-09).

An updated BIOS will often include fixes to known problems, support for updated technologies, and mitigations for security issues.

This is your bluetooth hardware as reported by your system, and may be helpful for others wishing to help. I note that it seems to be detected; beyond that, I can’t comment.

You indicated some difficulty with your connected NTFS partitions. The following article relates to some of the pitfalls that might be encountered when using NTFS on a Linux based system;

This is purely informational; however, does highlight the importance of only using chkdsk in a Windows environment to correct NTFS filesystem errors.

You have no swap configured. This is something you might wish to attend to whenever convenient.

While attending to any of these points noted may help improve your system to some degree, I’m unable to help with bluetooth (I don’t use it), so I shall defer to others who might offer better advice on bluetooth. @nikgnomic

Hi @razz ,
The only comment that I can add is that you have the corresponding package installed as from this page:
Bluetooth headset - ArchWiki

You are on KDE so you are using bluez5 .
Can you post the configuration files of bluethoot?

cat /etc/bluethoot/main.conf

I am interested on two sections, as described here:
Bluetooth - ArchWiki

Hope it help,
Regards

the discoverable time out:

# How long to stay in discoverable mode before going back to non-discoverable
# The value is in seconds. Default is 180, i.e. 3 minutes.
# 0 = disable timer, i.e. stay discoverable forever
#DiscoverableTimeout = 0

adapter power state:

# AutoEnable defines option to enable all controllers when they are found.
# This includes adapters present on start as well as adapters that are plugged
# in later on. Defaults to 'true'.
#AutoEnable=true

Hi @razz ,
If you would like the adapter to not be automatically enabled (e.g. on a portable device where you wish to save battery). So you can change this line.

[Policy]
AutoEnable=false

The adapter can still be turned on manually by running power on.

If the device should always be visible and directly connectable:

[General]
DiscoverableTimeout = 0

This lines were copied from the arch wiki bluethoot page.
I wonder whether you can try to change one and see what happen, then the other one.
In section 2 of the arch wiki page there are some hints about pairing.

Hope it help,
Regards

System data shows 2 wireless devices that might also be competing with other Bluetooth or Wifi devices

I suggest use a USB extension cable to relocate the Bluetooth interface away from the keyboard/mouse receiver

Or use a USB extension cable with keyboard/mouse receiver and attach the receiver under desk below wireless keyboard/mouse
