Bluetooth and USB Panel randomly do not turn on/work at boot

Hello,

I am dealing with an issue where sometimes on boot my usb 2.0 ports and bluetooth card don’t activate. This issue only happens on boot into linux and I have to reboot my computer until both devices turn on.

In my tests, I found that when looking at the bios both devices work correctly, however when exiting bios and starting manjaro, the devices could “turn off”. I observed the mouse light and it would turn off during to booting of linux itself.

I am currently on the unstable branch and kernel 6.9, but I encountered this issue on kernel 6.6, 6.8 and while on the stable branch.

My best guess this is an issue with the linux kernel with my computer, is there a grub boot command that can guarantee the usb ports and bluetooth will turn on when manjaro boots up?

Below are the journalctl errors I encounter during a broken boot, and a working boot.

Hi @Mechani-Happy,

If it’s really random and it being USB devices, it makes me think it’s a USB cable/port(s)/controller. Maybe as if they don’t get enough power? Sounds like a possibility. Make sure that’s good first.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already examined the connections on the motherboard and its secure. As for getting enough power, my psu had more than enough power to power all devices on the motherboard and when Im on the bios uefi screen of my computer, the usb ports always work. The mouse is on and I can move the cursor around. However, its only when linux starts the mouse/usb ports can turn off.

Well, if it’s really random, as your title says, I’ve got no idea. However, this might give you a clue. check if there are any errors in the logs:

journalctl --priority=warning..crit --no-pager --boot=-1

Where:

  • The --priority=warning..err argument limits the output to warnings and errors only;
  • and the --no-pager formats the output nicely for use here, on the forum;
  • the --boot=-1 argument limits the output to log messages from the previous boot. This can be adjusted to -2 for the boot before that, -3 to the boot before that, and so on and so forth.

Let’s try to keep your threads on this topic together:

Here are the results

Broken boot

journalctl --priority=warning..crit --no-pager --boot=-1                                                        ✔

Typing “config failed, hub doesn’t have any ports! (err -19)” into a search engine finds a lot of results on various distros. It seems to be a issue on Zen 4 systems.

I didn’t see any obvious solution but the first I’d try is updating BIOS to latest.

Updated to the latest bios, still encountering the issue unfortunately

I am still encountering this issue. It would be much appreciated if someone could help me.
