I’m looking for a good way to manage multiple browser profiles on Manjaro. I know some people use Firefox containers or Chrome profiles, but I’m wondering how effective and secure they really are.
Mod Edit: Redacted - paid tool to manage thousands of online profiles
Would love to hear your thoughts and any recommendations!
Type about:profiles into the address bar and press the Enter key. This will open the About Profiles page, where you can view, create and manage your Firefox profiles.
firefox -p gets the profile manager. The first thign to do on any Firefox install is to create a new profile with a name, so I have ‘firefox -p Ben’ which is also synchronised with my phone.
Then for Facebook shenanigans, I use my son’s profile, so I launch ‘firefox -p James’ and that’s synchronised to his own Firefox account.
The two are entirely separate and non-interactive.
I’ve never heard of ‘Multilogin’ and see absolutely no purpose for such a tool.
I know about Multi-account containers, but for managing separate profiles/people I prefer to simply go with extra profiles with unique themes to avoid confusion.
You can open a new session with different profile as a new window without leaving the original one. (see section Manage Profiles when Firefox is open).
Just tested it on my setup and it works without issues.
I’ve been using Firefox Profiles for years, so long now, I can’t remember when I started, and I never knew about ‘about:profiles’ I always though I had to do it from the CLI or a modified launcher.
