I have a Lenovo workstation and am using Deepin for my desktop. I have no idea how to use konsole other than to force updates.
Today I was adjusting my sound settings and my dumb brain on impulse saw pipewire and pulse options in the sound area of the control center. I clicked on pipewire and now I have no sound. No volume control and no way to get back into the sound section of the control center. When you click on sound it just freezes and does nothing.
If you can help, please be patient and walk me thru things. I am sorry I did a dumb.
Can you post inxi -Fza
on console ?
You can install updates with pacman -Syyu
or pacman -Syu
.
Just a tip from myself for the future, when you try something out and you want to mess around with settings and other stuff, just create a Timeshift Snapshot that you simple can rollback your systemsettings.
This way you get much more safety for your system and you no longer in fear of you mess something up

Hi @revmaillet and welcome to the Manjaro community
revmaillet:
I have no idea
I noticed you are having some difficulty formatting your forum posts.
As a new user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum effectively.
To that end, these links will help you achieve that.
And last, but not least, the Stable Update Announcements , which you should check frequently for important update related information.

Welcome to Linux, Try one command at a time, with practice you should get better.

PipeWire service running?
systemctl --user status pipewire.socket pipewire
Pipewire Multimedia Session Manager service:
Either one of the below service should be running.
systemctl --user status pipewire-media-session
systemctl --user status wireplumber
In my system, I have wireplumber running.
Thanks

This might be a bit backwards.
pipewire-media-session
is deprecated.
To update and (re?)install the meta package for pipewire
sudo pacman -Syu manjaro-pipewire
I dont know if that will help … but it should make sure you have what you should.

Thank you Thank you Thank you… so I am guessing if I want to go back to pulse I switch the language froom manjaro-pipewire to manjaro-pulse?
I am doing the happy dance now YAY

That would be a fair and accurate assumption …
Except it doesnt work due to dependencies.
It requires a few extra pokes;
sudo pacman -Syu manjaro-pulse pulseaudio-bluetooth
(this may have evolved since last time checked)
See for example here;
Yesterday by troubleshooting a HDMI audio issue on a laptop I was reinstalling Manjaro on, I had an issue. I don’t want support for that, I just want to let you know so you may have a look at it.
So I installed KDE, I switched from Pulse Audio to Pipewire by installing meta package manjaro-pipewire, it replaced all Pulse things, I rebooted, it worked. However when I tried to switch back to Pulse Audio, by installing meta package manjaro-pulse, there was a dependency issue and refused to install…

I have never used Deepin DE. I suspect GUI controls killed, stopped or disabled PulseAudio
PipeWire and PulseAudio are not running
Server-2: PipeWire v: 1.0.3 status: off with: pipewire-media-session
status: off tools: pw-cli
Server-3: PulseAudio v: 17.0 status: off with: pulseaudio-alsa
type: plugin tools: pacat,pactl
Installing PipeWire metapackage to replace PulseAudio is simpler solution than checking and restarting PulseAudio. The metapackage should also replace pipewire-media-session
with wireplumber

Oh I must have missed that.

Deepin
Yeah - thats going to be a source of problems because Deepin.
Its a hacked-together DE that is built on/against ubuntu with a mix of toolkits.
Expect bugs. Like really - there will be bugs. Some in usability. Some in security.
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1134132
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Deepin_Desktop_Environment#Known_issues
I think my major gripe is that Pipewire should never have been an option because it wasn’t on my pc. I know smarter linux users would do something better than I did but I assume if I have an option that I can use it. Not if I have the option I have to do something more to get it to work. Maybe that is my ancient 30+ yrs windows brain going on there.
It’s not so much that a situation like this is in the purview of smarter Linux users ; moreover, it should suggest users with a willingness to take a more hands-on approach. This should be prerequisite for anyone using a rolling release OS based on Arch, as Manjaro is. Things tend to change all too frequently for it to require any different kind of thinking. Cheers.

I must assume you mean some configuration settings provided by the DE.
In that case - You must talk to Deepin about it.
If they respond … in 3 or 4 years … it will probably be to tell you something about how things have changed since then (and then link to a commit that both does not fix the original issue, and also introduces two more).
My ‘expert opinion’ is that you should avoid that desktop.
Especially if you expect your environment to be anything like professionally polished out of the box.
