AX200 WiFi not working

Hi

I recently installed Manjaro KDE on my Beelink SER8 mini PC. I’m having a few hiccups but am fighting my way through them.

My biggest hurdle at the moment is that WiFi is not working on my Intel AX200 card.

Here are some konsole outputs that I have seen often requested when searching the forums:

If I am interpreting it correctly, the following look incorrect to me.

inxi -Fazy Device-2: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 driver: N/A modules: iwlwifi pcie: gen: 2

journalctl -b’ Oct 11 17:54:33 ser8 kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: probe with driver iwlwifi failed with error -110

I have tried using both the linux6.10,13-3 and the linux6.6.54-2 kernels, but no luck on either of them. I am back running 6.11.2-4 as seen in the inxi -Fazy output.

Hopefully that is enough info, I tried to include what seemed to be commonly requested in the threads that I searched.

I wondered if this was some sort of dual-boot with windoze issue.
But your output would suggest this is the sole system on the machine.

Sadly … that does not discount the possibility that windoze was not fully shutdown and has held the card hostage. This related arch thread solution included re-installing windoze!

( In order to disable ‘fast-startup’ - a cmd to properly shut down could also suffice )

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=290632

Gaah, I knew that I was forgetting to include info about Windows!

Manjaro is the only OS installed on my drive and I have disabled fastboot in the BIOS.

I will read your link and see what comes of it.

Please take a look through the linked thread.

BIOS ‘Fastboot’ and windoze ‘fast-start’ are not the same.

The proposed problem source is the desktop option ‘fast start’ … which is the default microsoft configuration. And it means the system does not fully shut down, but instead enters a hibernation.

This can cause all sorts of problems with other systems.

( And if the other thread is to be believed … can even persist beyond replacing the operating system. )

I have no firsthand experience of this situation.
Though I am familiar with the ‘false shutdown’ issue in general - its usually something concerning an active dual-boot scenario.

The wifi card in question should be fully compatible and working out of the box.

After reading that thread, I powered off my PC AND pulled the power plug. Grabbed myself a tasty beverage, came back to my PC, and PRESTO!

Thanks!!!

Ah the full power pull and bit of a wait was a good idea!
And much preferable to having to reinstall. :innocent:

Just as a comparison to help with troubleshooting, this is the inxi -Fazy network output for my Beelink SER5, which uses the same wifi adapter as the SER8:

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
    driver: r8169 v: kernel pcie: gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: f000
    bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:8168 class-ID: 0200
IF: enp1s0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter>
  Device-2: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 driver: iwlwifi v: kernel pcie: gen: 2
    speed: 5 GT/s lanes: 1 bus-ID: 02:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:2723 class-ID: 0280
IF: wlo1 state: up mac: <filter>
  Info: services: NetworkManager, systemd-timesyncd, wpa_supplicant

One thing I have found, and this is a fairly recent occurrence (the past few months or so), is that my SER5’s wifi connects with successful authentication to the router, but doesn’t send or receive traffic. Switching the wifi off & back on via the Network icon in the system tray, allowing the wifi to autoconnect again to the router, often fixes that problem. Not an issue for me though, as I use Ethernet 99.9% of the time.

Edit: I see that, while I was typing this, the issue has been resolved by doing a full power-off. A full power-off can force a firmware reload, especially after a system update. Switching it off and back on seems to be as applicable today as it was when I got my first PC in 2001.

Yeah, not just a full power off, but a full power disconnect by pulling it out of the wall. This also solved my issue of the PC not powering off properly (it would hang at a black screen when attempting to power off/reboot). Never would have guessed that killing the 120VAC to the PC was the solution.

Also, unless you have a specific reason for running Plasma on an X11 session, you might be better off switching to a Wayland session. Wayland works very well with AMD devices.

I am not sure what either of those are. I’ll take a look into it, thanks.

Wayland is a much more modern display manager than X11. It is what KDE Plasma defaults to nowadays. The main reason why Manjaro set Plasma to default to X11 is that there were/are issues with Nvidia GPUs that caused problems starting the desktop. As you don’t have an Nvidia GPU, your system may actually work better on Wayland.

To change to Wayland just log out of your Plasma session and at the login screen select Plasma Wayland instead of Plasma X11 (the option should be at the bottom left of the login screen).

If you use autologin to skip the login screen, then open System Settings => Colors & Themes => Login Screen (SDDM) & select the Behavior button at the top. Change the autologin session to Plasma (Wayland).

On a related note …

I run Folding At Home overnight, and in the past six months I would check only to find my wifi was disconnected. Frustrating as all get out. Finally, I ran into thread regarding creation of the file wifi-powersave-off under NetworkManager.

I suspect it was a remnant of the above discussion of dual boot, since the trouble did start about the last time I brought up Windows. I further suspect that while folding larger molecules, the wifi would have no transmitting activity long enough to put it into sleep mode.

Various powersave options can be disabled including the following…

  • NetworkManager
    As noted above;
# /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/wifi-powersave-off.conf
[connection]
# Values are 0 (use default), 1 (ignore/don't touch), 2 (disable) or 3 (enable).
wifi.powersave = 2
  • Various module-specific options. In the case of modern intel chips using iwlwifi its own powersaving should be disabled by default. But another module iwlmvm may actually have it enabled.
# /etc/modprobe.d/iwlmvm.conf

options iwlmvm power_scheme=1

Holy sh*t, we both encounter the 100% same problem. I am using Beek-link SER8 too, I just bought it two days ago. And I spent a whole day try to solve this problem. But nothing help…
