Audio Devices Not Showing in Manjaro - Seeking Assistance

Hello Manjaro Community,

I’m facing an issue with my Manjaro system where the audio devices are not appearing in the settings. I’ve tried various troubleshooting steps, but so far, I haven’t been able to resolve the problem. I’m seeking your help and expertise to find a solution.

Here’s a summary of what I’ve encountered and the steps I’ve taken

Initially, I experienced slow sound on my system. I sought assistance, and some suggestions helped improve the problem. I appreciate the support I received for that issue.

However, during the troubleshooting process, I was advised to use the “killall pulseaudio” command, which resulted in the audio devices disappearing from the settings.

I’ve attempted to restart PulseAudio using commands like “pulseaudio --start” and “systemctl --user start pulseaudio.service,” but no error or output is displayed.

I’ve also tried restoring the ALSA settings using the “alsactl restore” command, but encountered “Permission denied” errors.

Another suggestion I received was to rename the PulseAudio configuration folder using the command “mv ~/.config/pulse ~/.config/pulse_old” and then restarting PulseAudio, but this didn’t resolve the issue.

I’m sharing this post to seek your guidance and expertise in resolving this problem. If you have any suggestions, solutions, or further troubleshooting steps, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

Please keep in mind that I’m using Manjaro, and any instructions or guidance specific to the Manjaro distribution would be most helpful.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    [HowTo] Provide System Information
and press the three dots below your post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text. (use the option “preformatted text”)

using the “alsactl restore” command, but encountered “Permission denied” errors.

alsactl needs root access to save or restore ALSA settings using /var/lib/alsa/asound.state

sudo alsactl store
sudo alsactl restore

If PulseAudio is killed, audio devices would disappear because PulseAudio respawning is disabled on Manjaro (not like some other distributions). Manjaro uses systemd units to control PulseAudio daemon

Better to use systemctl --user restart pulseaudio to restart PulseAudio. Or systemctl --user stop pulseaudio.socket pulseaudio.service to stop PulseAudio (for troubleshooting ALSA)

Please post more information about systemd units

systemctl --user -l --no-pager status pulseaudio.*

and audio devices detected in PulseAudio

pactl list cards

Can you post pacmd list-sinks ?
