[ARM Unstable Update] 2024-09-15 - Kernels, Mesa, Plasma, LxQt, LibreOffice

Hi ARM Community,

after a long period of time ALARM managed to sync to a more current toolchain with Arch x86 again. Additionally this sync includes also Python 3.12 updates, Plasma 6.1, KDE Frameworks 6.5, KDE Gear 24.08, Gnome 46.1, LxQT 2.0, Systemd 255.6 to name a few.

A full list of updates can be found here. Based on this nature of this update we expect BROKEN INSTALLs and partly NON-BOOTING. If you need a working system and you are on arm-unstable, switch to arm-testing instead or help us to report issues and missing parts on our end, if you’re brave enough. Especially Plasma Mobile might not work, since we didn’t track development of that for months.

Additional Info

Python 3.12 info

:information_source: You will need to rebuild any AUR Python packages that install files to site-packages or link to libpython3.11.so. :information_source:

Print a list of of packages that have files in /usr/lib/python3.11/ :

pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.11/

Rebuild them all at once:*

pamac build $(pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.11)

* Note that if any fail to build, you’ll have to rebuild what’s remaining one or a few at a time.

Use rebuild-detector to see if anything else needs to be rebuilt:

checkrebuild

Hi,

Nice to see an unstable update, thanks to the dev’s, keep the good work :-)

Odroid c2 && Odroid c4 && Odroid m1 && Odroid n2 tested on unstable branch, the devices are working well on wayland && x11

hola

I built an unstable image for the Odroid c4

  1. sudo getarmprofiles -f
  2. sudo buildarmimg -d oc4 -e kde-plasma -v 2024.09.15 -b unstable n
  3. I flashed the image (on emmec module) with an old balenaetcher software => balenaEtcher-1.18.11-x64.AppImage, the newer balenaetcher software don’t flash the images, error during the flash proces…
  4. The Odroid c4 boot, no issue during the setting and install process

Only issue, the keyboard I setted during the install process is not present after the install

The update on a Pinebook Pro seems to work fine.

The only issue is the ongoing issue about wpa_supplicant. That still needs to be downgraded from currently version 2.11 to 2.10.

To do so:

  • download from Manjaro mirror
  • sudo pacman -U wpa_supplicant-2_2.10-8-aarch64.pkg.tar.xz

However this issue is not related to this update, so all seems to be fine

GT King Pro-Gnome-Edition-Gnome-46. Was facing some minor visual artifacts on Nautlilus-46.2 on Gnome-Wayland earlier and now found a solution/workaround. It could be related to the new GTK4 which at first I thought was due to mesa.

Solution or workaround for the Nautilus visual artifacts:

Insert GSK_RENDERER=gl into /etc/environment and reboot.

Found a reference reference to new GTK development.

https://blog.gtk.org/2024/01/28/new-renderers-for-gtk/

If you are using GTK on very old hardware, you may be better off with the old GL renderer, since it makes fewer demands on the GPU. You can override the renderer selection using the GSK_RENDERER environment variable:

GSK_RENDERER=gl

Edit: Orange Pi 5 Plus (RK3588) Gnome-46 or Gnome-47 Wayland has NO issue with the new GTK renderer.
