Any one maintaining the manjaro cinnamon edition?

Just curious as I am a Manjaro cinnamon user . I am wondering if the community stopped updating Manjaro cinnamon as I see on the download page

That is is supporting a EOL kernel 6.9 and is way out of date as id all the other community editions .
I have to ask myself why even have a community editions available is their not even going to be maintained ?
Thanks and have a great Day !

If you are a user and have it installed already, it is now as current as all the others when you did all the updates.

It could be a problem with all the pending updates when you used this edition right now for a new installation, as quite a lot might have changed in the meantime.
Installing an LTS or any other newer kernel is likely the least problem that is to be expected.

There is also someone else who creates Cinnamon (and other) spins of Manjaro:

Thank you for the replay and info on the spins . I am going to download it and give it a try !
But still begs the question , why have a old , possibly problematic , ISO available for download on the official Manjaro download page ? Perhaps it might be a good idea to substitute this “Spins” version ?
In anycase I appreciate the help .

I don’t know.
… no one who does the work?

I installed from this on October 22 2024 and had zero problems with it back then.
So far, it is just possibly problematic to update it to be current at this time.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. :man_shrugging:

I just installed that Spins" version and spent 3 hrs cleaning up the crap that was installed . I am not impressed ! LOL and that was the minimal version. Would not want to see the full version . I will say one nice thing about it though , next to no apps preinstalled but I did have to edit a few config files in pacman due to the errors I was getting .
I might just have to give the Official Gnome version a spin we will see

One man’s bloat is another man’s necessity :man_shrugging: one can never please all …

And there is two Cinnamon spins

Quite inconsistent “verdict” in my opinion.

On the one hand you

on the other you say

Just for the fun of it I’ll use the same old Manjaro Cinnamon edition for a fresh installation - something you didn’t even try.

Result:
Indeed not unproblematic - many gpg-keys are out of date in the meantime
and need to be refreshed
before the update can be successfully completed.

That is indeed a big stumbling block for any inexperienced user trying to use this ISO to install Manjaro Cinnamon.
But still easy to solve.

I refreshed the list of mirrors:
sudo pacman-mirrors -c Germany

Then refreshed the gpg-keys
(something that would not be needed to do explicitly, had the ISO not been so old)
sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys

This will take quite a while.

And then the update went flawlessly:
sudo pacman -Syu

I only ever use the minimal versions - may have to switch the browser and remove the office suite, install LaTex and the frontend I use - install mc, which is never present by default …
but removing unwanted preinstalled software doesn’t take hours. :man_shrugging:

Thanks for trying the minimal spin. Not sure what bloat was removed as there are next to no apps preinstalled. Just a browser, but one is necessary in case of issues so the end user can get help. The Eolie browser likely isnt what you want, but it has a small footprint, Its almost impossible to make everyone happy with a browser as its a personal choice.
It would have been nice if you reported the pacman errors in the release thread. Because if I had not been linked in to this thread I would not know about them, and I still dont know the specifics. That makes it hard to address.
