Android USB MTP File Transfer or PC doesn't like tablet

I’m new to Linux with a little bit of Ubuntu expecience and now I’m a Manjaro user. The only thing I’m not happy with is that my PC doesn’t recognize my tablet. I found this tutorial on youtube and followed it.

This is the commands sequence:

sudo pacman -Syy
sudo pacman -Syu
sudo pacman -S git
sudo pacman -S mtpfs
cd ~/Downloads
git clone https:// aur.archlinux. org/jmtpfs.git
cd jmtpfs/
makepkg -s
sudo pacman -U jmtpfs*.tar.xz
xdg-mime query default inode/directory
sudo pacman -Sy gvfs-mtp
sudo pacman -Sy gvfs-gphoto2
sudo reboot

and things was really good until the command

sudo pacman -U jmtpfs*.tar.xz

It returns:

error: ‘jmtpfs *.tar.xz’: the package could not be read or written.

The video’s author advised me change the file /jmtpfs to another file and try again. I achieved the same result.

Could someone help me with this?

* is a wildcard. sudo pacman -U jmtpfs*.tar.xz is not actually the command you need. use the actual filename of the file created by makepkg.

i’m not sure why you need that aur package anyway, though

It should work straight away with no extra package needed. I wouldn’t use youtube or reddit for advice… I would read the arch wikis, Manjaro tutorials /wikis and search in the forums for answers. You didn’t provide any system information or indicate which DE you are using. In xfce, thunar recognizes my android devices immediately via USB. I just have to indicate on the android device that I want to transfer files instead of charge the device. It also works fine over the network (samba) with Cx File explorer(Android).

    and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)

I can’t see your tablet recognized anywhere in your output and as you’re on:

Try 5.10 LTS and 5.12 Stable if the hardware is rather new first. If you need help with that, shout out!

Also mention the exact hardware you’re trying to hook up?

I’m sorry @Fabby, it was not plugged when I take the information. It’s a samsung TAB A 2016. I’ll try the versions you recommended.

Hi again,
I changed the kernel to 5.12 and then extracted information again. Nothing happened then I installed the kernel 5.10 and the output was the same.
With 5.10 and 5.12 I got minor graphic problems

Better, but not there yet.

What this means is that there is no kernel support for your hardware yet, but someone is working on it, so:

Keep trying the latest kernels as they get released (and very probably: file bugs with the team upstream and help Linux become better)

from what I gathered when briefly looking this up
this message could also mean
that the mode the device is in is PTP
… this, of course, should still work …
out of the box
The device isn’t exactly new or even recent …

Are you sure you selected the proper mode
(on the phone - a message will pop up when you connect the cable)?
Did you try a different cable?
I have had this happen - one cable simply didn’t work, the next one did.
Even a new one is no guarantee.
NEW is just an acronym for:

I see that you are using a USB HUB. Have you tried as @anon33601770 suggested with a different USB cord and also with that different cord directly into a USB port from the motherboard? I had an issue with a USB 3 hub where it would mount USB 2 flash drives, but until I disabled USB autosuspend, I could not mount USB 3 flash media via hub. Also look into Developer Options on the Android device (allow USB debugging to see if it helps).

The mode is properly selected. I don’t think there is a problem with the cable because is the same I use to conect a Kobo ereader in the same usb port on the pc.
The acronym is really good. I’ll adopt it.

I’m not sure where you saw I’m using a HUB. The cable connects pc and tablet without any other element. Maybe this new information you’re bringng help us solve it.

P.S. Now I saw all this HUBs in the USB section but none of then are external USB dispositives to add more connections. In real I have no idea what this is.
