AMD Renoir (4800H, 1660ti) KDE: External Monitor No Display

Please uninstall the 5.9 kernel.

[bamu@bamu-omen ~]$ pacman -Qqs nvidia-450xx
lib32-nvidia-450xx-utils
linux58-nvidia-450xx
mhwd-nvidia-450xx
nvidia-450xx-utils
opencl-nvidia-450xx
[bamu@bamu-omen ~]$

Looks like the driver is configured properly, going to restart and test the external monitor again.

Upon restart, confirmed external monitor is still not working.

Please run inxi -Fazy and nvidia-smi.

So, I have a similarly specced HP Omen 15 being delivered on monday 10/12 and I have been researching this issue for 2 weeks now in preperation for installing Manjaro as well, and I can see you haven’t made head way yet, I will be back with any info/tips I can find.

I suspect the issue is that the external hdmi ports are wired to the GTX, while the laptops monitor is wired to the integrated vega chip. when using prime, it uses the integrated and runs tasks on the gtx if using prime-run command, but how do we get the GTX to display a desktop if its deactivated?
have you tried disabling the integrated gpu and only using the GTX? does it output to hdmi that way?

Please run sudo mhwd -f -i pci video-hybrid-amd-nvidia-450xx-prime again, and then reboot. Then please try installing optimus-manager-amd-git from AUR. Then reboot, and try optimus-manager --switch nvidia.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/optimus-manager-git/

optimus-manager-amd-git is now obsolete per Kr1ss & Askannz.

Trying optimus-manager-git instead. Thought I think the problem may be compounded as I’m trying to connect via USB-C rather HDMI. Gonna do some leg work to find the PCB traces on the motherboard to determine if the traces are through a bridge or to the APU directly.

Good news! (Not quite there yet)

sudo mhwd -f -i pci video-hybrid-amd-nvidia-450xx-prime

Along with the updated optimus-manager-git have increased monitor connectivity.

I can now utilize the built in KVM switch via USB-C to the monitor, however I still don’t have video out.

This is an improvement as before it would connect for 3-5 seconds before disconnecting.

I haven’t applied: optimus-manager --switch nvidia yet as I’m afraid to lose the KVM functionality over the built-in KVM.

I am using the same laptop and pop os works with external monitors on the nvidia gpu. However renoir gpu doesn’t have video out to external monitor.

I agree, however on Win10 the vega gpu CAN video output via the USB-C.

I’m finishing finals next week before I dive back into trouble shooting this issue.

Hello,

Recently I’ve purchased HP Omen 15 Laptop with Ryzen 4800h and RTX 2060.
I am not able make external display to work via dp or hdmi, only internal graphics are working.
Did you manage to solve that issue by any means guys?
I can paste more info about the specific kernel version etc., if needed.

Just as a side note, when using PopOS I was able to switch to nvidia graphics and make external display work, but in the Manjaro KDE it’s not working at all. (PopOS has little documentation about switching graphics on their website, but I can’t post links here)
I’ve also managed to switch to video-nvidia drivers available from the hardware settings and make external display working, but then the internal display of laptop wasn’t working at all.

My external displays:

  • Dell U3417W connected via mDP,
  • Dell S2719DGF connected via HDMI

Hi. I’m facing the same issue on HP Omen 15 Laptop with Ryzen 4600h and RTX 1660Ti and Manjaro Gnome , cannot connect external monitor via HDMI port (not sure why I cannot list that port via xrandr) . Tried bunch of solutions already, but nothing so worked far.

Bunch of infos:

Got rid of all xorg.conf because nvidia-settings was messing them up and X wasn’t starting at all.
Found out on Arch wiki that ( _https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop/HP) Wayland is not properly handling HDMI/DP for HP Omen so I switched to X11.

When I try to install custom drivers with pacman I get:
error: target not found: video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-45xx-prime

Even GDM stopped starting automatically - I need to switch to ttyX log in ans tart it via systemctl by hand (not sure if that is related).

Please, hjalp.

As NVIDIA writes:

The NVIDIA driver currently cannot be used as an output sink when the output source driver is xf86-video-amdgpu.

Which seems to be the case here. But what seems odd is that the NVIDIA Xorg driver doesn’t even seem to be loaded. Can you post the latest Xorg log from /var/log/ or ~/.local/share/xorg/?

That has never existed as a pacman package. Those names are only relevant in mhwd. But it seems you might need to reinstall the mhwd-db package. Please do that, and post the output of mhwd -l.

Probably because it’s connected to the NVIDIA GPU and since the NVIDIA Xorg driver is not loaded, the X server has no information that such port exists.
