Almost perfect with IdeaPad Slim 5 14IAH8 Power, SLEEP

Hi, Already installed and everything works without the sleep. I’ve tried some solution from Archlinux wiki, but unfortunately doesn’t fix it. Like added acpi.prefet.microsoft_guid=1 to kernel parameter or load the ideapad mod …etc.
Any experience or idea to fix the only issue i have?

Thanks in advance

Hi @mamPHP, and welcome!

To fix it, you need to know what it is. And since, at least at the moment we don’t we need to find out. And we can do this by inspecting the logs. So, please provide the output of:

journalctl --priority=warning..err --no-pager --boot=-1

Where:

  • The --priority=warning..err argument limits the output to warnings and errors only;
  • and the --no-pager formats the output nicely for use here, on the forum;
  • the --boot=-1 argument limits the output to log messages from the previous boot. This can be adjusted to -2 for the boot before that, -3 to the boot before that, and so on and so forth.

Edit:

:bangbang: Tip: :bangbang:

When posting terminal output, copy the output and paste it here, wrapped in three (3) backticks, before AND after the pasted text. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Sed
sollicitudin dolor
eget nisl elit id
condimentum
arcu erat varius
cursus sem quis eros.

Instead of like this:

Sed sollicitudin dolor eget nisl elit id condimentum arcu erat varius cursus sem quis eros.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby increasing legibility thus making it easier for those trying to provide assistance.

For more information, please see:

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Thanks for the fast respond, here are the logs

I can’t see the suspend command it’s trying to activate, so do me a flavour, and see what happens when you run the following in the terminal:

systemctl suspend

…and provide any output, along with thee below if it doesn’t work:

systemctl status suspend.target

…and:

journalctl --unit=suspend.target

The first one tried before its just lock the screen and here are the others

systemctl suspend                                                                            1 ✘

It starts to suspend and then immediately stops it…and I have no idea why…please provide the output of:

journalctl --grep="suspend" --no-pager

Because I really don’t know why, but maybe that gives us a clue…

[s2idle] deep

AHA!

Try the following:

echo "deep" > /sys/power/mem_sleep

And testing a few, not just one, sleep cycles. Report back, because if it works, we need to make it persistent.

sudo echo "deep" > /sys/power/mem_sleep                                                      1 ✘
zsh: permission denied: /sys/power/mem_sleep

Hmmm…try:

sudo bash -c "echo 'deep' > /sys/power/mem_sleep"

the output is blank/nothing

That’s usually a good thing. Silence is golden, you see? Try the suspend now:

systemctl suspend

WoW, working now!! whats we did actually? :slight_smile:

It’s just temporary. We changed the sleeping mode from s2idle (which I think isn’t real sleep,) to deep.

Now we need to make it persistent. Please provide the output of:

cat /etc/default/grub

Looks good.

Well, edit the file:

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Feel free to use something other than nano if you prefer.

Change the line starting with:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

…to add the kernel parameter

mem_sleep_default=deep

So it’ll be:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash udev.log_priority=3 mem_sleep_default=deep"

Save, Ctrl + OY and then Ctrl + X, in nano.

Now the initramfs (I think that’s what it’s called…) needs to be regenerated, so run the following:

sudo mkinitcpio -P

And then hold your thumbs, cross yourself, do a little goodluck dance and reboot.

If it reboots you can test it. If it doesn’t, boot into a live environment, open a browser there, browse here and report back. Oh! Also, it wasn’t me and I’m innocent!

Unfortunately after reboot everything are the same again :frowning:

Post the output of:

cat /etc/default/grub

and

cat /sys/power/mem_sleep

…again, please.
