my screen turns black with only mouse cursor visible after the system turns itself into sleep mode after a few hours of inactivity and after I log in
but such thing does not happen if I induce the sleep mode myself and return to activity after a few minutes
not sure what to do , could someone help ?

sounds very similar to an issue I came across using the default linux612 on a fresh install. To fix this I went to Power Options and then I selected Power Off as the main Power Button behavior.
Also, you could swap to linuxLTS and test if the issue persists. Whenever possible try providing more details, like it was asked above.
