I have a Lenovo L14 (AMD) with a Ryzen 7 4750U and many (all?) programs that require 3d acceleration give the following message:

si_init_perfcounters: max_sh_per_se = 2 not supported (inaccurate performance counters)

3D acceleration still seems to work in most cases though.

and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…

An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)

I think I have found the cause for the error, it is thrown by this line [1], I guess the GPU is too new for the mesa version that comes with Manjaro. In newer versions of mesa, this has been implemented for newer GPUs.

How can I see the status of a package and when it get moved into the stable branch?

With AMD if the chipset is very new, the only thing we can tell you is: Try a newer kernel.

  • On stable, this is the one you’re running already, so have a little bit of patience.
  • On the testing branch the experimental kernel 5.10 RC1 is already available so if you’re on that branch:

:warning: Do not switch branches unless you know what you’re doing!

If you wish to continue to evilness, press the triangle

  • use the GUI kernel application

  • or alternatively:

    sudo mhwd-kernel --install linux510

  • to ensure grub is showing, execute:

     sudo nano --backup /etc/default/grub

  • Change (or add?) the following 3 lines:

    GRUB_TIMEOUT=3
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
#GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

    (3 or higher is fine, add the # before the lines above if those lines are present)

  • Ctrl+X Y Enter to save if there is anything to save

  • If you did save, execute:

     sudo update-grub

  • Reboot

  • Go to grub’s Advanced options

  • Choose the 5.10 kernel and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply and the words of caution. It’s a work computer so I don’t really want to do anything too crazy, so no unstable/testing branch. I may try kernel 5.10 though. I have seen that mesa 20.2.1 is already in testing. Is there a discussion forum or similar where I could get an ETA of that package into the stable branch?

There is never an ETA. It’ll be ready for stable when it’ll be out of testing…

Thanks :+1:, I installed it, mesa got updated to the latest version and the error message is gone. Some of the software doesn’t want to work anyways, but I guess that is not the driver’s fault :slightly_frowning_face:
