XFCE Screen Blanking

XFCE
screen blanking
So the screen started tuning itself off despite all power management disabled including screensaver.
I uninstalled the screensaver and it was fine for awhile.
I have added and enabled ‘presentation mode’ which too worked for awhile.

It’s even disabling presentation mode it seems. Re-enabling is not helping.
On/off just seems to be ignored.

So I’m now thinking of going back to 4.18.

Your post has been moved to a dedicated topic.

Your bolded text seems meaningless.

Version 4.18 of what?

You can’t. Manjaro only has one version of whateveryouuse, and partial updates are not supported. Rather try and figure out why this is happening. To that end, please provide the output of:

journalctl --priority=warning..crit --no-pager --boot=0

Where:

  • The --priority=warning..err argument limits the output to warnings and errors only;
  • --no-pager formats the output nicely for use here, on the forum;
  • the --boot=0 argument limits the messages to be from the current boot.

I have not used xfce in a while. Does it respond to xset commands?

As in: xset dpms force on

This forces the display on. (and off too)

Don’t recall how to post that without someone complaining

IT does. xset q showed “DPMS is Disabled”
tried xset dpms force on
BUT after 10mins its off.
Checking status again and it says
DPMS (Display Power Management Signaling):
Standby: 600 Suspend: 600 Off: 600
DPMS is Enabled
Monitor is On
Yet it turned off !

On the chance that you actually want someone to help you, please provide the requested logs. Additionally, please provide system information as described (below).

Regards.

Thankyou to deroberts1 showing me xset.
And tgpt showed me how to apply settings

xset dpms 0 0 0 && xset s noblank && xset s off

Monitor has remained on for over 45 minutes.

And here’s my configs
inxi -zv8

Hi @jaroMAN ,

I wonder whether you could try to set put to sleep never in the display power management picture you have posted. You could find this in System SettingsPower ManagerDisplay Tab
I am on XFCE and I only have one monitor but it never does not go blank.

Hope it help,
Regards

Me too only one monitor.
Always was ‘NEVER’ for both options. it’s just the switch from 4.18 → 4.20 finally caught up with me despite always having screensaver & locker disabled.

But I placed the xset commands into a bash script and have added to ‘Application Autostart’ under ‘session and startup’.

now I need to test if I still need 'presentation mode/ enabled.
