Hey guys,
have a brand new Brother MFC-L8390CDW multifunctional device and got it working within minutes without big problems. The only problem is, that the document is out of the sides scope.
What does that mean? The document is moved to the upper side of the page. So, a few lines are missing at the beginning of the document, and at the bottom of the page there is too much empty space.
I tried printing on Debian, openSUSE and Fedora. Printing there, I don’t suffer that problem.
Does anybody know this kind of problem and can help with resolving that issue?
Thanks a lot.
When I print I use a Brother HL-L8260CDW - which I had to add using a ‘home-made’ custom package.
I suspect your printer definition, the .ppd file, used is incorrect or your document is defining the margins outside the print area
but it is impossible to know without access to the exact printer.

Did you use this driver package?
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brother-mfc-l8390cdw
It is apparently a network printer - which should make it easy.
Someone wrote something about his setup here:

It may be the printer.
Every printer has 2 margins.
The one, that can’t be changed is what is known as a "Hardware Margin, This is the area on a sheet of paper that the printer can not physically print on, there’s nothing you can do about it.
The margin area that you set in the application is the “Soft Margin”
This is the amount of space that’s added to the preset “Hardware Margin”
To find the “Hardware” margin is to set all of the margins to 0 and type a line of numbers repeatedly from 1 - 0 (this make counting easier) across the paper and go a little onto the 2nd line.
The somewhere in the middle of the page do the same with one number at a time pressing enter after each number, here again go 5 - 10 lines on the second page.
This will show you what space your printer is capable of actually printing on.
You can use this to apply the “Soft” margins for eye appeal.
IMPORTANT: USE THE TYPESTYLE AND FONT THAT YOU NORMALLY USE FOR BEST RESULTS.
Exactly the same here. Also using the L8390CDW. I’ve had no luck using the original Brother driver (using the AUR package). Only driverless, i.e. IPP, works without problems, but does not provide as much settings as the original driver. I had reset the Brother to factory settings already, but no luck.
There is a dedicated install script available at Brother, but I hesitate to run it, because I’m not ably to understand, what it will manipulate in my system. Too bad, but I think I have to stick with IPP.
I can only image this it has to be related to the extra CUPS wrapper package that is going to be installed when using the installer script, but that is only a guess.
EDIT: If you still are having this issue, see my comment Issues with original printer driver (Brother MFC-L8390CDW) - #9 by kullermann which solves the problem for me.
