Working printer disappearing after reconnecting from lsusb

Hello,
I was trying to make my old HP LaserJet1018 printer work on my new Manjaro Thinkpad T419 laptop, but I got stuck on the following issue.

When I tried to make the installation via the printer installation wizard or sudo hp-setup the printer was not being recognized. I check via lsusb which returned Bus 001 Device 044: ID 03f0:4117 HP, Inc LaserJet 1018, so I went on and tried to google what the issue coulde be. Then however at one point I re-plugged the USB cable of the printer and suddenly the printer disappeared even from the lsusb. I can now confirm that it disappears from the lsusb after reconnecting and appears again only if the printer is restarted.

I would suppose that the printer could be faulty, but it’s been working on my Windows desktop without any issues for a long time.

At this point I was not able to find any more guides or help online and am stuck. Any ideas or steps to try further to debug are very welcome.
Thanks!

Do you have any more USB ports on that laptop?
I would suggest re-booting and trying a different USB port.

In addition, if you have any other peripherals connected to the
USB ports, disconnect them. USB can only deliver about 500mA
so any other device drawing current may affect the printer.

lsusb should always print the Bus and Device ID, you can always
try another printer lead as well. Hope that helps.

If it is not possible to reset the USB connection to the printer

sudo usbreset 03f0:4117

the only possible solution would be to restart the printer

Thank you both for replies. Unfortunately, 4 days ago I left home for about a month and currently aren’t able to try out what you suggest.
When I get back I will reply with results.
