Wine prefix not working after update to system

I can’t get any wine programs to run!
For example winemine, winefile or winecfg run from console don’t return or show any errors and ‘System Activity’ shows ‘wine’ as ‘stopped’.

Note:
wine is at version 6.7-1
and
mesa at 21.0.3-2
also
export MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.5
hasn’t helped.

Can anyone help with a fix? I don’t really want to start again with wine as I have some applications like office which would be a pain to reinstall.
thanks for any help.

Hi @donald ,
Could you please take a look at this post in order to see whether it is a solution for your problem?
Wine 6.7 broken - #3 by Keyboardman
It seems that @jrichard326 proposed a solution.

Hope this help, regards

Thanks for the info but I had seen and tried that but no help to me sorry

Hi @donald,
What office version are you using: 32bits or 64 bits, 20072, 010,2013?
If the answer is 32 bits: do you have a wine32 prefix?
If not, could you try to do this:
cp -a ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/command/start.exe ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64/

Maybe, you are right and you have to install office again.

Regards

office 2000.

I created a new wine32 prefix and can get some things to run like winecfg, winemine etc.
The new prefix has 2 new folders “ProgramData” and “Program Files (x86)” in it.

I have had wine installed for some years and it worked ok. Has there been a change such as the package now being 64 bit rather than 32bit wine?

I am now getting the following-

$ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine winecfg

But I can’t get wincfg to run so I can try using native dlls.
What can I try?

Also tried this-

but those dlls(shlwapi.dll,shell32 etc) are definately in ‘~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/’

Can anyone see the problem here?

Hi @donald ,
The default wine prefix is for 64 bits packages by default now and when installing a 32 bits program you need a wine32 prefix, you are right.
I usually have troubles when installing 32 bits programs after I found the proper path which is executing winetricks and the cancel the installation and from the GUI run the explorer provided by wine. Then, browse the folder with the setup.exe file and the installation begins without problems.
Maybe you could consider to install office 2000 again.
For using the native ole32.dll instead of that useb by system32 in windows folder you could run winecfg and the go to the tab libraries and search for this ole32.dll, selecta and add the library in order to replace the one in the windows folder.

The x86 folder is where I have installed my 32bits programs.

At last, when none of the solutions seems to work try reinstall or uninstall the packages and delete the .wine/ folder and try to reinstall all again.

Hope this help, regards

Thank you for your help and especially clarification about the default prefix being 64bit now.

It will be a pain to reinstall office and get it all working properly again.
Do you know if it is possible to convert a wine prefix to 32bit to see if that would help?

Hi @donald,
The information you are requesting is here:
