Wifi not working after update, i915, kernel 6.12, network

Manjaro XFCE 25.0.0, kernel 6.12.19
Home network

Hi,
today I installed the new stable update for XFCE
Now, I’m loosing wifi since then.

Before until kernel 6.11, I sometimes had to I disconnect the network then reconnect, because one of the core was in high demand after a suspend mode, seems an issue with i915 boards, but now, I suspect the culprit is kernel 6.12, after a few minutes I loose the connection, I try to disable the network then reconnect, but thought it says connected a ping to google.com show that is not.

I’ll try to boot with kernel 6.6,but now I do see the menu to select which kernel to boot from.

Thanks for helping

Hi @artofit,

You can find everything on the Wiki:

Thanks, but the issue was to have a internet connection at all, so my priority was to install kernel 6.6
Secondly, at boot just press ESC to make GRUB menu appear and select kernel 6.6

Since I revert to 6.6, wifi is stable.
Googling with “kernel 6.12 wifi disconnect” found other people having issues with 6.12

I stay away from 6.12 for a while

Or, you could provide system information that might help others discover the actual cause or inconsistency.

Many users (myself included) are using kernel 6.12 without any indication of the problem(s) you’re presenting.

I suspect your issue might lay elsewhere, but we can’t know without maximum input from you, and many eyes to investigate the possibilities.

Regards.

System Information

Output of this command (formatted according to forum requirements) may be useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide more information and outputs from other commands whenever asked.

With i915 board, after a suspend mode, one core is running at 100%, this almost invariably happens after suspend mode since ages, I think kernel 5.15. By disconnecting to the network and reconnecting, then CPU runs “normally”.

In this very instance, it’s core1 which runs full speed, often is core2.
I output the console output of the request cmd before disconnecting and just after.

$ inxi --filter --verbosity=8

I have edited your post in this instance. In future you are expected to use what you learn from those links; and use some common sense.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

Output of this command (formatted according to forum requirements) may be useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide more information and outputs from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Although maybe not the cause of this particular issue, it’s definitely something you should attend to. See: Swap

Basically, the system will have to dump processes when RAM gets too full; yours is already at almost 60% after less than 16 hours uptime. This can, naturally, lead to crashes and other “unexpected behaviour”.

While this doesn’t necessarily relate to WiFi not working, it is nonetheless a serious consideration given that you have comparatively little space left on /:

In this instance I’d recommend any (or all) of the following;

  • Move infrequently used personal files (ISOs, video’s, etc) to external storage.
  • Create sufficient swap space for your system - this can be either a swap partition (or a swap file on /).
  • Invest in additional system RAM - 16GB might be an advantage.

Regards.

Indeed! Worth looking at du -h /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
… I currently have 15G in mine! Time for a cleanup.

Maybe pamac clean will help.

e.g.:

[brian@BG-T440-MANJARO ~] $ pamac clean
Number of versions of each package to keep in the cache: 3

To delete: 130 files (870.3 MB)
Clean cache ? [y/N]

Maybe just set that to keep the last one, or do what I do:

sudo rm -r /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*

… although THIS IS CONSIDERED the NUCLEAR :warning: option!

Yes, possibly.

@artofit - please see;

In fact, read through the entire page, and bookmark it.

Regards.

I took note of your remark reggarding swap in case of hypernation and changed that.
However, the problem is else where.

Often when I come out of hybernation, I get one of my core running at 100%, as soon as I disconnect from the network and reconnect immediately, then it’s back to normal.

I wanted to make the outputs as text file to easily make a file compare, by can’t attach(only img)

You’ll find 2 output related to the execution:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

It happened just at boot(so after a shut down).
1st output, one of my core running wild, in this instance core 2
the 2nd output is after disconnect/reconnect to network, CPU is normal.

One sees that problem is:

1: cpu: 133% command: ps pid: 1607 mem: 3.75 MiB (0.0%)

Looking on the web, I’ve found people complaining about this very problem with board i915(my case)

Thanks
