The thing works in a live session:
so it isn’t the hardware - IMO.
On the real system, the NetworkManager configuration has been changed to use iwd as a backend
and now both services are enabled and active, too - which is … incorrect™

Not a solution to the problem presented here.
If it works after reinstallation - as it does when in the live session - then it was a configuration issue with the system.
