Wifi continuously disconnected after update (supplicant-disconnect)

Hello, after updating to manjaro latest version I have wifi connection problem, it continuously disconnected me from wifi (I have tried connected to 2 access points) and I only have 1 operating system in my laptop.

I wanted to provide some logs, maybe it will make anyone who interested to help me have easier debug.

I have tried some solution including: trying to use different kernel currenly running 6.12, tried to switch 6.6, and following tutorial on disabling power safe and disable random mac ( RTL8822CE Instability even with newest kernel - #2 by Arrababiski ). The problem is still persist.

[MiniHowTo] Present code or command output

Note: Grave accent (or, backtick) characters are used. :eyes:

For inline code or to show a single command:

  • please follow this simple example: code here.

For multi-line command output:

  • place text beween two rows of three (```) backtick characters to form a scrollable text box, or …
  • use the </> button in the Compose window to achieve the same result.

The empty row between these rows of backtick characters is where to paste any multi-line command output (such as inxi).

An example of a pre-formatted text enclosure:

What is a Quark?

A. In Physics, an elementary particle and fundamental constituent of matter.
B. A character from the Star Trek: "Deep Space Nine" television series.
C. A soft, creamy, usually unsalted cheese traditional to central Europe.

Thank you for your reminder, I’ve edited my question with the correct format, and I’ll keep that in mind for the next time.

Have you tried the latest LTS kernel?

  • Kernel 6.18 (LTS)

I’m afraid I’m personally not much help with WiFi, as I don’t use it, but others might have an idea or two.

Regards.

@soundofthunder

Thank you for your answer, I install kernel 6.18 with

mhwd-kernel -i linux618

and boot into it, I still get the same error after couple of seconds connected to the network.

But when I connected it from live usb it is not experiencing any error.

Was it before?

Yes, the live cd run kernel with 6.12 older minor version.

You’re using IWD, and live usb probably not. IWD has some configuration options, take a look here (same symptoms and a solution):

Specially, ControlPortOverNL80211=False and wifi.iwd.autoconnect=yes.

I’m summarising this for the benefit of others:

  • So, the WiFi problems exist on the system itself and with the Manjaro Installer live environment – in both cases, with kernel 6.12 (LTS).

  • However, with kernel 6.18 (LTS) WiFi still fails in the system, but it does work in the live environment.

That could well be an important piece of information.
Unfortunately, not for me, for reasons already mentioned.

Let’s see what others might think of.

@Arrababiski Thank you very much, i’ve tried the mentioned link steps but it seems like the wifi interface doesnt show up unless iwd and nm is started.

When I tried to run command

ip link set wlan0 up

It goes down again, I think I just gonna reinstall os completely.

Thank you @Arrababiski @soundofthunder for the help.

Aren’t iwd enabled at the start? If you want to do a last try, see if iwd and Network manager are active:

systemctl status iwd.service

systemctl status NetworkManager.service

Iwd has his own set of commands:

It cannot be both - it is: either this - or that
only one of these two services can be active at any one time.
or none at all
but not both

If both are active, mayham will occur

NetworkManager can be configured to work with either wpa-supplicant or with iwd.

NetworkManager - ArchWiki

Section 7.13 - the link goes there

@Arrababiski

Yes, I actived them again but after some seconds connected to wifi network it shows error Authorization supplicant disconnection and all ssid is disappearing, and after some seconds it connected again and it repeats.

Tried connect with netctl

sudo wifi-menu

But it won’t connect since the neteork keep disappearing.

and iwctl

station wlan0 scan

station wlan0 get-networks

station wlan0 connect “My-Wifi”

@Nachlese

But if Network Manager running without iwd it doesnt detect any ssid, but iwd without Network Manager it doesnt show interface and no network in my case.

@Nachlese Yes, my configuration like that

[device]

wifi.backend=iwd

wifi.iwd.autoconnect=yes

That’s not good.

iwd can be a backend for NetworkManager - as you apparently have it configured.
(iwd instead of wpa-supplicant)
But in that case, it will be managed and used by NetworkManager.

Having the iwd service running is neither needed nor correct.

Having both NetworkManager and iwd services running is very likely causing your issues.
IMO

at least try:

systemctl stop iwd.service

(this will not survive a reboot)

systemctl disable iwd.service

and then a reboot will only bring up NetworkManager (with iwd as it’s backend, as you have configured it)

Your laptop is an older one. Your best bet may be to simply purchase a state of the art USB dongle not just to fix your problem but to upgrade your wifi. It would offer EASY plug-and-play connectivity, better speed/range (especially with newer standards like Wi-Fi 6/6E), portability, and fixing built-in Wi-Fi issues, And they are pretty darn cheap. Just a thought.
