Why RT kernels boot and LTS kernels don't boot on my system

I’m running an RT kernel and can only change to other RT kernels. If I try to boot any LTS kernels the boot process stalls at the “root clean” stage. I’ve switched mirrors between stable and unstable with no luck. The cause I believe has to do with nvidia drivers but not sure. Any ideas?

You must provide system information. Otherwise, it’s useless to assume anything.

I love assumptions!

Welcome to Manjaro! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

  1. Please read the information behind this link. It will help you to post necessary information. [HowTo] Provide System Information
  2. Please press the three dots below your post and then press the :pencil2:
  • If you give us information about your system, we can see what we’re talking about and make better suggestions.
  • You can do this by using inxi in a terminal or in console.
inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width
  • Personally identifiable information such as serial numbers and MAC addresses are filtered out by this command
  • Presenting the information in this way allows everyone to be familiar with the format and quickly find the items they need without missing anything.
  1. Copy the output from inxi (including the command) and paste it into your post.
  • To make it more readable, add 3 backticks ``` on an extra line before and after the pasted text.
(Wisdom lies in reading  )

You may do, but it’s wasted time if I assume anything which turned out to be wrong which could have been avoided by simply adding your system’s information.

ok, updated.

That is not my field of expertise. (maybe @brahma can help)

Things to try when booting other kernel:
  • disable apparmor (just in case)
  • disable quiet (to get more info on screen while starting the kernel)

and does it also happen with the fallback option of the non rt kernel?
can you boot into manjaro live usb? since they ship by default with normal kernels?
and yes, we need logs from the failed boot… so boot with the normal kernel, when stuck reboot, and then provide logs from the failed boot:
journalctl -b-1 -p4 --no-pager

and also provide output from:
mhwd-kernel -li && mhwd -l -li
pacman -Qs nvidia

i meant non rt fallback kernels…
but seing this:

you dont have installed kernel modules for the normal 60 kernel, like you have for the linux60-rt one:

and also these 6.0 kernels are going to be no longer supported, so install the 6.1 for example:
sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux61
after its installed check with:
pacman -Qs linux61-nvidia
if the nvidia modules were installed, if not install them with:
sudo pacman -S linux61-nvidia
if they were installed, reboot, you should automatically boot with the new 6.1 kernel, and then uninstall the 6.0 kernels
