Why is the Manjaro XFCE Minimal ISO so big now?

When I tried downloading the Manjaro XFCE Minimal ISO (25.0.5), I saw the file size is around 3.0 GB, which is just 0.7 GB less than the full Manjaro XFCE ISO. Is there a reason this minimal iso is so heavy? For reference, the last time I grabbed this ISO in december last year (24.2.1), the total file size was 1.0 GB, the size of the minimal ISO literally is triple the size now!

Does anyone know why this is so or if there is a better place to get a response?

I don’t think that is correct. It has been a long time since the minimal ISO could fit below 2GB. I vaguely remember that I could get the Openbox minimal ISO down to 1.8GB.

An ISO always contains an overlay with the packages needed by the hardware detection tool - that overlay alone is around 900MB - which means stripping the hardware detection tool (mhwd) - you could get the ISO below 2GB.

Summary

I build a rescue ISO - even that is difficult to keep under 2.5GB

Summary

The only ISO which is under 1GB is the architect ISO - perhaps this is what you thinking of?

Perhaps you are correct. I checked my archived downloads for the past 5 years and it looks like the size of the ISO goes back and forth from 2.2 GB to 2.9 GB over the past 5 years. Either the version I was looking up from last year was mislabeled or it was an incomplete download.

I appreciate the insight though into the details of the ISO and comparisons too. I’ll mark this closed. Thanks!
