"Whoops! /run/nordvpn/nordvpnd.sock not found."

I have an issue that occurs repeatedly with NordVPN (installed as nordvpn-bin from the AUR).

  1. I run

nordvpn connect

  1. I get the message

“Whoops! /run/nordvpn/nordvpnd.sock not found.”

  1. I run the command from this reddit post

sudo systemctl start nordvpnd.service

  1. It works again.

At first it seemed to only happen after either a system update or an update of the nordvpn-bin package, but I just had it happen unexpectedly after no updates. I’m not sure what’s going on and am seeking to understand the issue and correct it permanently.

Enable it so that it starts on boot time:

systemctl start nordvpnd.service
systemctl enable nordvpnd.service

or together:

systemctl enable --now nordvpnd.service

Thanks. I’m sure that’s it. The output I got from

systemctl enable --now nordvpnd.service

is

Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/default.target.wants/nordvpnd.service → /usr/lib/systemd/system/nordvpnd.service

I’m sure that’s the correct solution, I don’t think I’ve done it before. The only way I can understand and confirm it is that before I know there was no nordvpn related item in KDE Settings > System Administration > Systemd and now there is.

I’ll mark as Solved but if it breaks after an update as previously happened I’ll be back. But I’m sure it won’t :grinning:

Moderator edit: Removed useless, microscopic screenshot

@geckofish52 Next time read the install messages: nordvpn-bin.install - aur.git - AUR Package Repositories There is exactly that written.

[sarcasm]
Awww comon you actually expect ppl to read stuff
They should instead popup a message box in these cases.
[/sarcasm]
Don’t mind me, im going to play a game now to return to normal a bit…

And according to that you have to do it after upgrade too. Got it.

Not always, but you may have to login.
