When the display brightness is set to 100%, the actual brightness drops below 5%

I have an Asus laptop with an AMD processor (Ryzen 5 5600H) and an integrated graphics card. When I set the display brightness to 100%, the actual brightness drops below 0%, meaning it becomes dimmer than when set to 0%. This problem has arisen recently, possibly following the latest update (Manjaro Stable), but I can’t say for certain as I don’t often set the brightness to 100%.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

There has been rumours that certain AMD graphics suffered from regression at some point in Linux 7.x.

The regression however has not manifested on any of my AMD systems a ThinkPad T495 AMD and a X13 AMD.

But I don’t use Linux 7.x.

Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.28.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
Kernel Version: 6.18.44-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.0 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
Product Name: VivoBook_ASUSLaptop M1603QA_M1603QA
System Version: 1.0

I am seeing this too, so I set my brightness to 98%. Also running kernel 6.18

coming in next version of Kernel 7.1 (7.1.9 )

Add my Ryzen 5600G to that list - no issues with Linux71 (7.1.8-2) anyway.

Yes sure

I’ve corrected the formatting and unhidden your post. :wink:

@BG405

The user was not the OP of the other topic

The OP of the other topic was asked to provide inxi output – this member is not the OP of that topic (despite it being similar in nature) – these posts have now been moved to this topic belonging to @pp2222 .

Yes, unfortunately I hadn’t noticed that. Wouldn’t be the first time. :facepalm:

@BG405

You mean, you keep count? :grinning_cat_with_smiling_eyes:

Not enough spare cells in my brain for that, I just know it’s more than one. :stuck_out_tongue:

There is now a third user reporting this problem as well. :backhand_index_pointing_down:

Is there a pattern, like all AMD. I’m using intel, and I see no issue there.

Yes, indeed, it seems to be something specific to AMD systems.

Yes, I simply posted in the wrong thread. I’ve got a similar problem and created a separate thread. When I realised it wasn’t the right thread, I deleted the post…

Well, few of us are able to avoid the occasional “oops” moment.

However, keep in mind that Moderation staff can usually move a post to another topic on request, if it’s warranted.
