What’s the holdup for Plasma 6.1?

I’m sure many people asked this a million times, so I’m sorry for asking

but what’s the holdup for Plasma 6.1? Is there a showstopper bug that needs to be fixed in upstream?

Obviously.

I was just curious on the details

…Which were thoroughly discussed in the last 2-3 stable and testing announcements.

Looks like I missed those, will check. thanks.
EDIT: here it is

To be clear, this is not a complaint. I am happy with this decision to hold it off until it’s rock solid :+1:

What’s this so called showstopper bug that I’m not aware of?

I have yet to see anyone point to anything specific. It’s been asked on every single update that hasn’t included it. Hopefully at some point they just feel our frustration and give us the update :\

If you are a gamer and Nvidia user - switch to unstable - then provide some feedback in the current Unstable Updates thread.

There seems to be issues with Nvidia and issues with overall gaming.

If you are really that frustrated - I suggest you switch to unstable branch - then you can judge for yourself.

With major changes in framework - there will always be issues and Plasma users tend to expect nothing less than perfect.

You didn’t look very hard. If you want Plasma 6.1 that badly then switch to unstable branch, it’s not difficult.

5.27 still had several bugs in it, most of which have been fixed in 6.0.5.

We always appreciate it when newbies come and tell us what the purpose is of the distribution we offer, and how to run it.

Really, we do. Everyone here appreciates a good sense of humor.

Be sure to come and tell us when your own and obviously superior distribution sees its first release. And then also be sure to tell us where we can sign up at your support forum, so that we can start haranguing you about our own gripes with it.

@Aragorn, I’ve always respected your contributions to the forum, and I have not read any of your posts except that I had something to learn from them.

But when you talk like this,

Or like this,

It really disheartens me to see this kind of sarcasm. I understand KDE 6.1 questions have become quite repetitive, but I honestly did not expect such a response from you. It doesn’t reflect well on us and it isn’t fair for the rest of us who are trying to explain to every other questioner as to why we can’t simply switch over and that they are free to use the Unstable branch.

I hope you’ll consider what I said.

I don’t see how that does anything but prove my point. The rest of your reply is just salt.

If this had been another member than the one who was hammering us about this very same topic, then I would indeed not have bothered posting anything.

But the same person going on and on and on, repeatedly claiming that they could not find any valid explanation for the delay in Plasma 6.1 adoption into Manjaro Stable even though they have so far also repeatedly been given the link(s) to the explanation, and coming and telling us how to put our distribution together and what the purpose is of each of the three branches? That’s beyond arrogance.

Perhaps I was indeed being a bit too acerbic — I am at present time also being slandered and falsely accused elsewhere, and I will freely admit that it’s definitely coloring my mood — but I have a natural aversion to the kind of arrogance, entitlement and haranguing I see being displayed with regard to our decision to not include Plasma 6.1 among the Stable updates yet.

P.S.: You could also have PM’d me about my reaction. Public drama is not exactly good for business either.

P.P.S:: Feel free to flag my post as inappropriate if you are so inclined. I give you my word of honor that I’ll then leave it up to another staff member to decide whether my post should be deleted or not. I do not consider myself immune to a(n honest) judgment by other people, and if I was breaking the rules, then I should accept the responsibility for having done so.

We’re not going to be porting 6.1 just yet. Like others have said previously, you’re welcome to try out the Unstable branch. Unstable is basically Arch Stable. Manjaro is a curated, rolling-release distribution.

I knew there was some history but I wasn’t aware of the extent. Don’t let the few bad apples ruin the bunch .

I’m not exactly well-versed with Discourse . I’ll do that next time.

It’s fine. Had I known about PM I would have done so. Seeing as you’ve become the Forum Admin, I trust you know what to do.

Oh, I am only one of the Forum Admins. There are several, with @Yochanan and myself being the most active ones in terms of our online presence.

I’m going to be totally honest here.

This was a very refreshing read! Why?

Honesty.

That’s why. It’s the one trait I admire above all else.

And it’s good to see that I’m not the only one getting annoyed with this kind of entitled behaviour.

I would say that maintainers’ intended purpose of a distro doesn’t necessarily have to match user needs. But as long as a distro works for an user and by accident serves the purpose set by user (even if it’s not meant so by distro’s viewpoint) then I think it’s totally fine. I would not question maintainers decisions however if something breaks for the user though in this case.

I, for one, have had zero issues with 6.05, glad you decided to stay on it. It has in fact been the most stable Plasma experience for me in a long while…
