If I recall correctly, Manjaro KDE version used to have a notification icon in the system tray where it always notices about the last updates for Manjaro. Like 5 years ago, more or less.

pamac-tray (the shield icon near the clock) tells you if there is update, there is also a popup. When you click on it it opens pamac-gui. If there are many packages listed, this is then obviously the big monthly update, so before updating you can and should check the Announcements for known problems and solutions.
RSS from the forum is still available, if you use it with whatever client (like Liferea)
Just add .rss in the category url. For example
Adding to @teo’s post, you can also have the forum notify you when a new update announcement topic is created for your branch.
For example, to be notified of a Stable update, go to the Latest Announcements/Stable Updates topics - Manjaro Linux Forum page and click on the notification bell at the top. Select the “Watching First Post” option to be notified whenever a new topic is created:
