I have a Nvidia GT 430. Should I use the 390 or 470 drivers?
470xx drivers don’t support 400-series GPUs.
Thanks
For a card that old - you should use nouveau.
You should give nouveau a try.
How do I go about that?
sudo mhwd -i pci video-linux -f
The nvidia Website will tell you which cards are supported by which drivers
I would use nouveau
driver only as a fallback, if you can install Nvidia 390, I would go for that, see if it works, and if it does, keep this driver as it is the best one for a Nvidia card, the free driver nouveau
(provided by video-linux
) to me is a low tier driver for Nvidia.
To manage video drivers from the graphical interface, go into Manjaro Settings, then Hardware configuration, and right click on driver to install/remove.
It seems the nvidia drivers were the problem. I removed them and installed the free drivers and it’s all working now. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference between the two. I don’t use this for watching much video anyway.
