Welcome and introduce yourself - 2022

I’m self-taught webdev since +12 y.
I switcthed from a macbook pro to the http://frame.work laptop with Manjaro 9 months ago. And I can say I’ll never switch back to macOS ! Thank you Manjaro

Hi,
I met linux at '96 with Suse but I only installed it and die configuring drivers so, not much more until Ubuntu… but came back to Windows and a few year later starting to virtualize debian and some kali and parrots in live usb but now I heard about arch distros and I delete my windows and started with manjaro mate, I have tested i3wm and love some menus. Now want to see other tilings wm…
Nice to met you!

Hello everyone! I began Linux around 2010, with Ubuntu then Debian, always with KDE. In the following years, I made a bit of distro-hoping (didn’t we all?) and settled with Manjaro in 2020 during quarantine.
I know a bit of command, but I not very well-versed in pacman or all the lines needed. A mechanic technicien, pleased to meet you.

Brief intro: I am an 83 year old semi retired potato farmer, my kids thought getting me a computer would keep me off the tractor, this is great. But what really got me hooked was a trip to the local brothel, it turned out bad, apparently I was rude and the Handler (pimp i guess) and the working girls kept yelling "I’m gonna call the cops, so I left, I was gonna anyway, it was too much, all the “workers” had on strange costumes, they all hat a picture of an apple with a bite taken out, I think it was some kind of cult, and they called their pimp Jerry… when I woke up the next morning My pockets were full of old android phones and dell laptops, I really got hooked on fixing them.

Hi all,

Hello to all,

My name is Leo and I migrated to Manjaro (with GNOME) a month ago. I’m still discovering and it’s exciting to be able to rely on an OS that allows you to understand from the inside how a PC works.

I use Manjaro in a professional context, but I also migrated all my activities to this OS!

I have already seen the efficiency of the community to solve and explain the solutions following a problem of sound and update to the v6 kernel!

See you soon on the forum !

Hello dears :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I’m Majid, known online as Majidjan, from IRAN. I’ve been using Manjaro (gnome version) for about 1 week (Noob! Huh!), and I love it. Tried Linux (Ubuntu with Gnome) 12 years ago, and couldn’t get into it. I hope to learn and use Manjaro iif you help me.

Well I’m back after a rather long hiatus. Been using MX and it was fine. Then, of all things, my Toshiba laptop died. Bought new computer ASUS w/Windows of course. Freaking nightmare. So even though salesman said I’d void warrant if I install linux I did anyway. Manjaro install could not have been easier.
Thanks for a great OS. I originally left because I distro-hop; can’t help it, it’s my nature.

Hi @all

I’m Phil, 31 yo and I’m from germany.

Idk how to keep my introduction short thb -.-, read it or leave it

I had my first Linux experience as I was 20 or 22 or something, it was a Ubuntu 14.04 Distro I’ve tried. Why? Because a friend of mine told me to. I’ve always been bored because of anything, only my computer gave me something to do (Good 'ol Win7 and gaming stuff, but I’ve never been creative in any ways) … It was a special (In germany we would say “aha”) moment… I’m able to do anything i want, however i want and i have to learn more about everything my machine is able to do.

Well, many years later I’m still an absolute novice or less regarding Unix/Linux. I know how to update my machines, I’m able to install things, I’ve tried several Distros and I literally read everything about it. I don’t miss Windows (Windoof as we say in germany (win stupid? Nah, sound’s stupid… Maybe Win Doh’?)) at all, gaming is not a thing for me anymore.

I’m very interested in programming, especially C/C++ but also Android (Java/ Kotlin). But tbh… I’ve never done something interesting or creative. My best “Invention” was a terminal calc, + - * / … pretty amazing… Not!

Maybe I’m more the theoretical guy, idk. The important thing for me is always to know what and how to do. But my life goal is to contribute to the linux kernel in any ways, 'till I’m 89 yo. So, there is much time left for my plans, maybe I learn something from you guys

So much for me, I’m curious about you guys^^
And i’m sorry for my english skills here, I’ll write everything in german again so you can translate it with deepl (google translate isn’t that good!!!)

Hi @all

Hi! Francisco here kwon as Trax 2032, from :chile: move to Linux as main OS since this year, previously using it from time to time, I moved to Manjaro from Fedora 37.
Greetings!

Hi, Julia here, I’m a new Manjaro user

I’m using computers for more than 30 years, Linux since 2015 and Manjaro for 3 years, however I’m not a coder.
Recently I switched to KDE Plasma and that’s my best experience ever on Linux!
Here I want to thank everyone involved in that project.
Happy holidays and a wonderful new year.
Long live Manjaro

Hello, just catch up before year 2022 ends.
Started using computer since Intel 386, MS-DOS, Windows For Work Group.
Had played with various Linux distro, Ubuntu, Pop!Os, Elemental, Linux Mint, OpenSues, Manjaro as secondary OS aside from Windows before. I liked Manjaro KDE the most, it has everything I needed and loved (even gaming). Now it breaks the record of the days without using Windows, and still counting…

Thank you Manjaro team for this great OS.

Welcome aboard, feel at home there are other oldies here too (see my profile)
Although i recently switched back from Manjaro to Kubuntu agan…

Hi there I’m Zane from Hampshire in the UK.

I moved from Ubuntu Studio to Manjaro about two weeks ago after finally leaving Windows behind permanently in October. Everyone involved in this project is doing an amazing job from what I’ve seen in the first couple of weeks. Been a Linux user since when Red Hat came free on the cover of a magazine, never as a daily driver though until now. Looking forward to being a part of the community

Hiya, I’m Frank from Lancashire. I’ve solely used Linux based laptops for the best part of the last 15 years though to be honest my coding/Dev knowledge is nigh on zero. I’m strictly speaking a user who likes to modify his “tools” for a specific purpose. I do a lot of text based and linguistic research and found a Linux based OS so much more competent and adaptable for my needs. A short while ago somebody talked me then into trying out a Pi 400 which has since become my only driver… So far I can only say one thing: thank you to whoever makes Manjaro OS work.

Hi, I’m Brian from Kent in the UK and a user of Linux for many years. Originally Red Hat at work, then Gentoo for a while at home, but for a long time now I’ve used Kubuntu. I have just installed Manjaro in a virtual machine to get some experience and then plan to switch over fully from Kubuntu in a few weeks time.

New Manjaro user, but I’m a LONG time GNU/Linux user, my first install was either 1.* or 2.* kernel, I forget which… :grinning: However I’m not a dev, or even power command line user… Mostly I do KDE…

I ran Kubuntu for a while, then moved to Debian, but got tired of the headaches of old versions of a few things, and the problems of trying to get / run the latest versions… I started out trying to move my Deb sources from stable to testing, and borked my system badly. I gave up and just installed Manjaro, now I’m working on getting my machine back to having the same (or later) programs, and learning how things are different from Debian land…

Outside the computer, I’m a ‘maker’ and spend most of my time at the Artisan’s Asylum in Boston, MA, one of the world’s top makerspaces, where I work on all sorts of stuff, mostly mobility related, as I’m a paraplegic. I’m also a long time member of the FSF…

My handle comes from being a biker before I got hurt, riding a Moto Guzzi (aka “Goose”) Since landing in a wheelchair, that is one of the many things I can no longer do. :sob:

Hi Manjaro Forum! I’m a developer with over 8 years of experience using linux off/on. Decided to roll on over to Manjaro a few months back and so far love it. (Previously distro hopped a bit and then stuck with Fedora for awhile.)

So far only a few little quirks I have that are not major (I dual boot Windows for some games and secure boot (a requirement) doesn’t seem to be supported by Manjaro without some work).

Looking to just learn and be helpful here on the forums!
