Webcam microphone doesn't work

I got a webcam with a microphone off amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MVY1H9V
and I’m on a desktop, using the i3 distro of manjaro. alsamixer sees the microphone, but when I try to record things with audacity, nothing shows, and when I try testing with zoom/google meet, nothing shows. Not sure what to do?

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

Please read this:

and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…

:innocent:

P.S. If you enter a bit more details in your profile, we can also see which Desktop Environment you’re using, which CPU/GPU you have, …

Thanks for the suggestions. Here’s inxi --full --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host

  • Audio section in inxi looks good.

  • journalctl output is stripped beyond the 80th column. :sob:

  • What is the output of:

    arecord --list-devices

Sorry sorry! Here’s journalctl again:

Weird. that all looks good…

Does it work anywhere? (I.E. Cheese, Skype, …)

:open_mouth:

Nope, can’t get any audio through anywhere. This is the second webcam I’ve tried, though so I’d be surprised if it’s the webcam

After trying it on an ubuntu liveusb, then on my ubuntu laptop and then on a friend’s mac laptop, I think I can definitively say that it’s the camera. I guess it had nothing to do with the OS, after all. Thanks for the help!
