Wayland slightly lags every ~2 seconds on external monitor/2K res only

My browser (Firefox), and some games (mostly visible in Geometry Dash), run smoothly for ~2 seconds, then for a tiny bit drop/stutter to ~100fps.
Other visuals such as the selection box when you hold and move your mouse on the desktop, or just moving around a window seem to start off laggy, but “ramp up” to 144fps as you keep moving them.
This does not happen on my built-in laptop screen, it only happens on my external 2K screen. Both screens are 144hz. This also does not happen on X11, but i don’t want to use it as it often freezes on my favorite games. Bigger windows seem to lag more, and Geometry dash has stutters only if the window is a little bit bigger than 1K res.
From what i can tell this is probably related to either a high resolution, or using an external monitor in general

This might not be enough info, do ask more questions

Just gathering a little more information that might be useful to those wishing to help.

  • Are you using a KVM of some kind; if so, provide information about that.
  • Or, are you slaving the monitor(s) directly from laptop graphic outputs?
  • Please provide details about the cables/connectors used.

I’m sure someone will offer assistance as soon as they are able. Note that weekends are sometimes a little slow.

Regards.

My monitor is connected via HDMI, directly from the port on the side of my laptop to the monitor. I also tested a 1K 100hz monitor, different cable too, but the external monitor still has similar issues. It’s not a big issue, the contents of most windows are smooth, It may even be simply how Wayland works but since i haven’t seen anyone report this kind of issue, it may just be a few that have this.

Found out that this no longer happens if i go to the bios and select the graphics mode “dGPU only” instead of “Dynamic” / Use “Nvidia” instead of “Hybrid” in Optimus manager / use AsusMuxDgpu instead of Hybrid in supergfxctl.

These settings apply mostly to asus laptops, or any laptop that has 2 gpu’s

Seems that using both iGPU and dGPU just does that (My laptop by default used both), so the solution could be to use dGPU only, but that heavily decreases battery and makes some stuff render wrong.
If anyone does happen to know how to change the way the integrated and discrete gpu work together, i’d like to know, since maybe there is a way to remove these lags while still using hybrid graphics, but ill consider this a solution anyway

Have you checked the repository of Magic spells:
