Waking from sleep hangs linux

This started with the most recent update, about 3-4 days ago. Running release Manjaro on a Lenova Legion 5 with an LG 32 hdmi external monitor. This combo had been working well up until the time of this upgrade. Symptoms are:

Combo boots ok, however once it goes to sleep upon trying to wake up it restores the built in screen but then hangs before the hdmi screen comes up. Animation stops on windows on the built in screen and mouse is dead. Only a hard reboot seems to fix it.

In experimenting I found that, if I boot without the hdmi and then plug in the hdmi monitor linux will similarly hang.

Also tried using a smaller hdmi monitor (lower res) and that seems to be OK; no problems.

So judging from these first pass findings, it seems that the new update is having issues with higher res hdmi monitors and initializing the nvidia graphics for them when they are plugged in or in waking from sleep.

Wanted to report this. And if anyone knows of a work around that would be great.

As a relatively new or infrequent forum user, you are encouraged to take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

The Update Announcements contain a Known Issues and Solutions section and should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form (preferred):

inxi -zv8

OK. I have pasted the output of the inxi -zv8 command below. Note this was run with a working monitor (the smaller LG one described below) as when the problem exists the system hangs. I admittedly don’t know that much about linux, so there might be some useful logs of the crash somewhere, which I can send; if someone can point me to the files of interest.

I did do some more investigating. I found no sleep-wake issues with a smaller LG monitor, which has lower res than the big one. Tried config’ing the big one for the lower res, and it would get further when waking but still hung. From the outside it appears to be hanging during the HW config of the hdmi monitor.

Here is the cut and paste of the inxi cmd.
