hopefully I’m in the correct area… onboard was working great for about a year or so, some update broke it, hasn’t been working for about 2 months now, i need to get it working again if possible , i use it mainly when I’m on my tv, basically I think I need to clear all of the settings, I’ve read a few things, but can’t get it to work again. It opens but can’t type at all , thanks for the help if possible
I’m not sure, but I think Maliit is the current integrated Plasma Wayland on-screen keyboard… though the KDE team is actively developing plasma-keyboard to replace Maliit.
It’s available in the repo:

It also needs selecting in settings. However, it is designed to be context-sensitive, so it only appears (automatically) when you tap on a text field using a touchscreen - so (as I use a keyboard) I can’t see it.
I’m interested to h ear that you wish to use a KDE Plasma keyboard on your TV - I didn’t know Plasma could be installed on a television.
When I used a keyboard with my downstairs TV I would just plug in a dongle, though a USB cable worked well too.

That’s right, plasma-keyboard is for touchscreen devices - but basically your normal keyboard should work for your laptop… if you don’t want to use the laptop keyboard I’m not sure how you can use an onscreen keyboard if you cannot reach the TV screen.
A Wireless keyboard and mouse is the top answer; I have a tri-mode keyboard, but I also have a 2 metre cable to connect directly when charging… so I could leave a laptop with the TV and sit back with the keyboard and mouse on a tray (as I do in my own room using the HDTV as my monitor with the desktop computer behind that).
The onscreen keyboard was mostly useful for Thai input (it’s hard to find characters on the keyboard when typing), but now if I need that I switch to Thai layout and screenshot the preview for reference.
i do have a wireless keyboard, but because of my disability i am on my back half the awake day, onboard saved me by only using the mouse to type
I have both of the following packages installed:

Only “Plasma Keyboard” will appear in:
System Settings → Keyboard → Virtual Keyboard
Make certain to activate it in that dialog, and click Apply
After a reboot, the Virtual Keyboard button should arguably appear at the bottom of the SDDM Login Screen.

Have you tried mounting a keyboard? I mention this because I recently broke some ribs and couldn’t sleep in my bed, so I ended up laying back in a supporting ‘bowl’ shape chair - then the pain for me to move around led me to get everything ‘handy’.
The main drive being that I fixed my keyboard to the board which I could settle on pillows each side so that it was angled about 45’ towards me, and with my elbows rested on supports either side of me I could just let them rest on the keyboard.
If it were a more permanent situation, I think I’d be looking at something like an articulated arm that I could pull in/push away easily (as there were times when I really did NOT want to sit up…).
Otherwise I think it’s a disappointing scenario - KDE moved on.
Other options?
- try X11
- Try another desktop (but don’t install over Plasma…)
- Get a portable touchscreen monitor to complement the HDTV.
I mean - really - typing using a mouse on an onscreen keyboard must really suck big time.
Another option - KDE Connect with a phone, then at least you’ve a better screen to do the typing on… I haven’t really tried it, but swiping to type would be much easier if it works.
Something that frustrated me was that I love my iPad, but can’t easily hook it up as a monitor for my desktop if I want to turn of the TV.
Any speech to text things available? Assuming of course, that OP can make sounds that can be converted into text. Not everybody can.

Seems to be Python based. No idea what it drags in in terms of extra modules, how stable it is, what extra stuff (if any) it requires, and all that.
Oh, and there is something called “whisper” in the AUR (didn’t show up for me when I searched for “speech”).
It looks like pretty standard python modules. I see nothing out of the ordinary there.
