The PC is set up in dual boot with Windows 11 (Secure Boot enabled), and the boot manager is rEFInd. I am using refind-btrfs, so I have the option to roll back to the system state prior to yesterday’s upgrade by loading a snapshot (not yet tested).

I was using the latest available kernel, but kernel 6.18 had not been removed, even though it was not in use. The NVIDIA GPU was previously running with the open driver, without DKMS.

After the upgrade, immediately after the rEFInd menu (which appears normal), when selecting Manjaro, the login screen already shows a resolution of 640x480, and it remains the same once the desktop loads.

Audio also seems to be affected, but I would like to fix the video resolution first, as in this state it is impossible to work. The issue occurs both with X11 and Wayland.

Can you help me?

Please provide the output of:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form (preferred):

inxi -zv8
Running `inxi` in `chroot`
Providing `inxi` when you cannot access your desktop environment

Note that any code or command output (such as inxi output) should be placed within a scrollable pre-formatted text enclosure according to forum guidelines.

See here for instructions:

[MiniHowTo] Present code or command output

Note: Grave accent (or, backtick) characters are used. :eyes:

For inline code or to show a single command:

  • for example, typing: `code here` will display the text as code here.

For multi-line command output:

  • place text beween two rows of three (```) backtick characters to form a scrollable text box, or …
  • use the </> button in the Compose window to achieve the same result.

The empty row between these rows of backtick characters is where to paste any multi-line command output (such as inxi).

An example of a pre-formatted text enclosure:

What is a Quark?

A. In Physics, an elementary particle and fundamental constituent of matter.
B. A character from the Star Trek: "Deep Space Nine" television series.
C. A soft, creamy, usually unsalted cheese traditional to central Europe.

I can use the desktop for simple tasks without using ‘chroot’. The output of

inxi -zv8

I’ve had a possibly related issue where my laptop with an NVIDIA gpu wouldn’t recognize an external monitor after this update. I tried switching from video-nvidia-580xx to video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-580xx-prime drivers, which made things worse: Now the built-in laptop screen remained black, too. After rebooting with the older installed linux kernel, I installed video-nvidia-580xx again, and rebooting into linux kernel 7 now seems fine and my external monitor appears to work again.

All this to say, maybe it’s worth trying re-installing your nvidia drivers (e.g. through Manjaro Settings Manager)?

There’s some news. I connected a much older 1920x1080 monitor—the one I’m using now is an OLED with a higher resolution—and the desktop is back to normal.
The system specifications are now:
