Very slow boot after updates

Hi
After some updates the system takes about 2 min to boot. It takes longer than Win10 that I dual boot on the same machine.
I have read some posts here before posting in an attempt to solve this with no success.
Here is some info:

Any help on this?
TIA

A lot of suspects in this log. Start with disabling tpm (ftpm) in the uefi settings.

Is it a clean log where you booted, then shutdown when you reached the desktop (finished starting the computer then shutdown)?

I see some potential issues here:

You seem to have a problem with something called Tumbler

//EDIT: seems like this issue, where people “fixed” it by disabling the device in system [SOLVED] Boot process slowdown because of /dev/tpmrm0 start job. / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums

systemctl mask dev-tpmrm0.device

Note the quotes around “fixed”, because to me it doesn’t solve the issue, it is a workaround to have normal boot time at best.

Ok, I tried this:
Rebooted, went to BIOS settings and in the TPM option was “Enabled” and I set it to “Hidden”
I never touched this settings before.
Posting results:

Yep, after the tpm that strange sudo would be my second most important suspect. What is this script, why is there sudo at boot time…

Tumbler…is in my second group of suspects. It makes thumbnails. It often complains about unknown file types, it has a couple plugins by default but not for everything . Normally is with low nice (priority) but it can sometimes also make problems. But that would be more like high cpu.
As said, i do not think it is the big issue.

Can be disabled as a service or with config file in home. But start with the big things.

P.s. so did disabling tpm helped? Cause it is a known common issue in recent time on amd, with recent kernels.

My third suspect from your last log will be the vbox module. The rest is more or less “normal”.

Yep basically the issue is the same as in the linked thread on Arch forum above, or this one [SOLVED] Login screen delayed by tpm device issue at boot / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums

To me still not a fix as you disabled a feature to workaround an issue. But if it’s good for you then I guess it will do

Disabling TPM did the trick. He has normal boot time now apparently.

After setting the TPM option in the BIOS to “Hidden” the boot time went from about 1m55 to 35 secs.

Still don’t know why I’m getting those errors with tumbler plugin…

It tries to load something that doesn’t seem to exist. Just try to Google it and see if you can find relevant answers.

//EDIT: install the libgepub dependency for Tumbler?

Probably wants to make previews of your ebooks and cannot. Can’t say more, i am on a phone right now. The solution is either to install some optional dependency for the filetype (search for the .so file with sudo pacman -Fyx) ot to disable indexingv for that filetype.

About tpm…Linus Torvalds had a long tirade in his typical style recently. I think he wants it completely disabled in kernel 6.10 and basically called amd idiots for this implementation:)

So I installed the dependency for Tumbler.
I still get all this stuff after reboot:

Is there something I should worry about?
Or let it go?

And you don’t have the error in log now.

For the other messages in the log, I don’t know, I usually see these ACPI BIOS warnings on laptops (may or may not be fixed by updating the BIOS or changing kernel), the sp5100-tco thing you could blacklist that, lot of bluetooth related stuff but I don’t use that so I don’t know, same for WIFI, not sure what those dbus-broker errors are, I see you have an autostart script that is executable but should not, you have a Wireplumber error, GVFS error.

All these messages could be “normal” though, doesn’t seem critical to me if everything works on your end.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But you could Google the messages or part of them to try to find threads about them and go from there.

I think everything is ok now. I am no amd user so i do not know about the 4 amd lines, and also the gvfs trash is new to me. Pretty much everything else i have had and researched upon and is not important.

  • acpi - that is the OEM firmware to blame, nothing can be done and is just warning

  • tco is not important if you are not running a server, embedded system like raspberry pi, ups, etc, its a watchdog, it can be disabled but not worth the effort to bother on a desktop or laptop, just ignore

  • bluetooth…well this is firmware again, nothing to be done here, if it works ignore it, if not…you cannot fix on your side.

  • “not named after” is a xfce bug…they should fix it with update before it becomes deprecated and a real problem, again not user fixable and for now is just a warning

  • gkr pam is also ignorable in 99% of the cases

  • xdg-autostart - well that is something actually for manjaro to fix. It looks useless to me and a remnant of a past workaround, but someone tried to remove it and reported unbootable system, so i would not touch it
